so i applied as a womens studies major because i have nooo clue on what i want to do and thought that it would be nice to be in a class with all women while i was still deciding on what to really major in. can anyone tell me anything about majoring in womens studies at ucla? this is all of course if i get in. are the women going to be as beautiful as i hope or just full of feminists? this is not a troll post. i really need some input.

wait, did u join for the girls?

Well, From what I know, Women's studies is about history, arts, culture, languages, civil rights, feminism, etc.

lol

Sigh. This makes me really sad.

I'm really too tired to go into the discussion revolving around the term "feminist". Otherwise, I'd get all heated up.

You're in the major for an enormously wrong reason. I would advise you to be just be undeclared (you don't really have to do anything, just take courses as if you were undeclared and switch into a major when you've figured it out). If you care to have your mind opened, take the introductory course: Wom Std 10.

Yeah, I agree with that.

yes i joined for the girls....ive visited ucla a couple of times and found that ucla chicks are pretty so i thought to myself... "Why not just join a class full of them while still deciding on what i want to do?"

so Mr.Pink, is intro women studies 10 going to be mostly all women also??

You know what it'll be funny
if women studies classes don't have a lot of women.

^ i will immediately switch into a different major then.

hahaha, well...

IDK, I guess it'll be fine dude.

I suppose you can join in for the ladies, I'm sure it'll be fun

Hold on! A true feminist (and I consider myself in that category) loves men who love women for being women. And. . . this fellow might actually LEARN something!

My son's best friend took a sewing class in high school (same reason, figured he'd be in a room full of girls, and what could be better than that!) and he came out an absolutely brilliant sewer -- even started his own ipod pouch business -- does beautiful work.

"loves men who love women for being women"

huh? what does that even mean?

Well, when you put it that way, UCLA77, you make everything sound so nice. Haha.

I'm a feminist, too. WS minor. I just dislike when these sort of conclusions are jumped to... I didn't totally discourage him from taking the WS intro course.

I was going to say something along the lines of "you have so much growing up to do!" but there's a c/o-77-er in this thread. Haha.

I love women for being women.

I would like to take a class on the history of the civil rights movement of women someday

"are the women going to be as beautiful as i hope or just full of feminists?"
Beautiful people and feminists are not mutually exclusive. I have no idea where people get this idea. Probably no thanks to Rush Limbaugh's coining of "feminazi". A women's studies class looks the same as any other class, except the female to male ratio.

"is intro women studies 10 going to be mostly all women also??
Yes, but there will also be a sizable group of guys because the class fulfills a GE requirement.

"I'm really too tired to go into the discussion revolving around the term "feminist". If you care to have your mind opened, take the introductory course: Wom Std 10."
MrPink, I echo your sentiments on that. I'd also rec Women's Studies 10. I went into it because it fulfilled a GE requirement, but I learned so much. Because of that class, I went on to take a few other WS classes (some were cross departmental w/ the Psych, Anthropology, and Sociology departments).

"Women's studies is about history, arts, culture, languages, civil rights, feminism, etc."
Hmmm, not exactly.....

Thank you, cheesecake.

im a male and a ucla women’s studies major student! :)

There are many definitions of feminism, as you will learn in Women’s Studies ;-)
