wondering about the theatre program at these schools...

Wondering if anyone is familiar with the theatre programs at the following schools:

  • Trinity
  • College of the Holy Cross
  • St. Lawrence
  • Clark
  • Emory and Henry

Tech?
Design?
Management?
Writing?
Performance?

If you aren’t doing Theatre, what else would you do?

performance. Otherwise, school with strong English, writing, Psychology majors.

Emory and Henry holds preliminary auditions every year at the Virginia Theatre Association competition and those who hold the auditions are very enthusiastic and eager to talk about their program. The school has an arrangement (mentoring, internships) with the acclaimed Barter Theatre in Abingdon, Va. Lovely college but quite small and remote – a six hour drive from DC and two hours from Asheville, NC. It helps to like outdoors mountain activities if you go there…

We visited E&H (we live in Charlottesville) a few years ago when my son was looking at schools. We are used to very small schools and rural settings, but it was WAY too isolated even for us. Abingdon is charming but also tiny (and you do have to drive to get there from the school). Their theater facilities were small and underwhelming at that time, but they are building a new arts center that will include a more up-to-date theater. You definitely would want to visit (it’s a long drive down I-81) before applying to make sure that the environment and school culture would be a good fit for you. The Barter certainly has a nice reputation!
