Which is better for college apps?

Working 6 hours a week with a job or working 6 hours a week as a volunteer?

Which is better for college apps?

Working 6 hours a week with a job or working 6 hours a week as a volunteer?

the latter, but it depends on what the job is...

I would say they are equal. Only the rich can afford to do volunteer work instead of earning money at a job. The best would be to try and juggle both. If you are going to choose one or the other for college, get a job so you can have some cash. In either case, it really depends what you are doing. Rarely are there volunteer or paid jobs where you really do something amazing. If you are starting as a senior, a paid job will seem less like you are doing it for college.

Well my parents have a low income so I guess it would be understandable that I'd work a job instead of doing volunteer work.

Right now I'm a junior and I offered a job as a Computer Science teacher for a class at this place.

I did some volunteer work as an assistant for a biology researcher at City of Hope's Beckman Research Institute, but it was amazingly boring.

computer science teacher? I'd definitely take the job. I thought you meant like a McDonald's job vs. Community Service, then I would say that its equally fine. But doing something really towards your interests, giving you real practical experience towards your intended major sounds much better.

In what sense is work experience considered really "Work Experience?"

I mean, I actually do many of the dishes at home (though we have a dishwasher, saving some bucks never hurts). Aaah, I started long long time ago, though I get paid (?) for this. Well, I just ask for like a quarter or .50 at times. Does this count as work experience? Not that I do the dishes to write something on work experience section of the app or anything, Im just used to helping out my mom by doing some household chores.

Haha! The things that get said on CC, whether in jest or not.... goodness.

Surely you jest.
