Do business schools consider summer internships during college as a work experience? does it have to be from a top large corporations? If it counts, do i have to have a full time experience after college?

no there is only a blank for post grad WE

So do you mean, you only need one experience whether it is internship or full time? or did you mean that the internships during college are not even considered?

Wow, they don't consider anything done during college in work experience?

They do consider your internships, but as far as work experience there is only one blank for post grad work experience. So when you read that wharton admits have on avg 72 months of WE, you know it means post grad WE

rolen27 is correct. While internships are nice, MBA programs want significant full time work experience on your resume.

no they don't consider it, nor should they. it's an internship. you "work" for free. get a real job for a while.

Well, I think that saying that they don't consider it at all is a bit too strong. It's clearly better to have summer internship experience than to have nothing at all.

However, it is also true that internships are not the equivalent of full-time WE.

I would also say that they will consider work experience accumulated while in college. I know people who have held real jobs (not internships, but real jobs) while going to college. For example, I know a guy who was basically running his family business while also attending college at night. That's pretty darn good work experience. Other people start their own successful companies while they are students. I would also say that that's pretty good experience.

It is also true that you don't absolutely HAVE to have full-time work experience to get into a top MBA school. But most successful applicants will.

So, a small family business will be counted? I have been involved in the family business since I was 15. We started from a scratch and over 7 years it has become a somewhat well established corporation. It is owned by my parents but because they don't speak English I have been handling all administrative aspects. Are they going to consider this as a Good, if not Great, WE?

It all depends on what your responsibilities are. There is no hard and fast rule. The more responsible you are for making key business decisions, the more valuable the experience will be.
