Work study vs off-campus jobs in Worcester

As I stated on another thread, my D's fin aid pkg. didn't include work study. All the other schools have given her that. But she still wants to get a part time job. Great! But then I started thinking.... how easy or hard will it be to get a job off campus? If they have an escort service to get around town and the surrounding area close enough to walk to doesn't have many opportunities, what are the chances she will be able to get a job? This could definitely impact the decision whether or not to go to Clark.

Thoughts?

I would not count on escort to get to and from an off campus job. It doesn’t go very far off campus.

I don’t think its too difficult to get an off campus job. I know at least three people who have had one. One worked down park at a sub shop, another worked at a music store down main st, another works at an italian restaurant as a bus boy on shrewsbury st which is near the train station.

On the other hand, one of my roommates has been living at clark for the past year, but has taken this and last semester off. He hasn’t been able to “find” a job and is just living off his parents. I very much doubt that he actually looked though.

I would probably wait until after first semester to get a job. My friend who worked at the sub shop is a senior doing fifth year. She only worked there for two weeks before she realized how busy she is and that she just doesn’t have time for a job. My other friend who works at the italian restaurant usually works on friday or saturday night. I don’t know if thats something your daughter will want to do or not.

Again on the other hand, my friend who worked at the music store, that was her second job. She also works at the info desk in the university center. They ended up closing the store on main st, but she put in for a transfer to another store, and only works when they have emergencies. She doesn’t really sleep.

I wouldn’t worry too much about not getting work study.

Thanks for all the info symlink
