Any one have any experience/insight into how Vandy handles their work study? Are they flexible in their hours. Do the students get a chance to study on the job. It's a part of my son's package. He's an engineering student and I'm worried that the 20 hours a week might be a serious drain on his time.

There’re all kinds of work-study jobs on campus. Ideally, for studying on the job you want to get a job at the reeve desk of one of the dorms, but those spots are always filled the semester before. There’s a big work-study job fair at the beginning of September. YOUR SON WILL WANT TO GET TO THIS JOB FAIR AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE. I can not stress that enough. Those jobs come on a first come, first serve basis, and all the good jobs that let you study on the job are taken early in the morning. I made this mistake one year and had no choice but to work what was essentially another part-time job.

Best luck to your son. I was admitted to Vanderbilt as an engineer and switched all my courses to Arts and Sciences in the first week.
