working at a hedge fund

i was just browsing the web and i found out one of the schools i was highly interested in had a well known hedge fund recruiting on campus for internships and it got me interested into what these internships would entail
-Intern, Global Operations
-Intern, Knowledge Management
if anyone who has more knowledge than I on this subject could inform me..I would greatly appreciate it thank you.

well good for you buddy.

I am guessing that hedge fund is Citadel (judging by the divisions). Citadel actually resembles more of a financial services firm rather than a hedge fund. I know they have 9 divisions encompassing everything from special situations investing to reinsurance. As for what those divisions are the operations one is well....the operations. Typically this is referred to as the back office. You will not be trading/investing but you will be assisting with the various back end processes (accounting, legal, processing etc are all back office departments). I don't know of any other firms with a "knowledge management" department but it would probably entail information gathering and integration with the various parts of the firm's businesses.

yup it was citadel and thanks for your insight mahras, it was kindly appreciated
i think i will have to look into what exactly knowledge management is on there website or something hopefully ill be able to gather some info...anyways thanks

Most investment bankers would like to be working at a hedge fund. The few i've interviewed at on-site for final rounds (Bridgewater, DE Shaw) seem like paradises of brilliant people making a ton of money. Definitely run with any opportunity you get.
