Working is hard as hell

no never read men and mice. exactly why i want to go to a good universiy so atleast i get peers of my level with whom i can atleast dicuss idea without them going to sleep. and also getting teachers with whom i can i can discuss off the topic things like sometimes i get idea of making things. like once i though dat if i take two magnets. i put one down and then suspend the other on top of the base magnet by levitation. then wiegh the base magnet with one magnet suspended on top of it by levitation will the wieght of the suspended magnet be added to the total wieght. i asked my high school physics teacher and he looked at me like i was mad. he told me hell tell me some other day. that day never came. Its good i can learn from simply reading books without the helps pf teachers or my high school would have totally screwed me. yeah enjoying life from now on is a real good idea. well tthere are a lot of good unis other than the ivies too. but wherever you go youll have to always take matters in your own hand. i mean bieng self reliable. not expecting the teacher to do everything. else most of the time u will be dissapointed. umm sorry nick for digressing off the topic

yea, so what ya wrote wasn't that legible, but i got the general idea. pretty ingenius, at least from an outsider's standpoint.

gracilisae, he's a junior

ill try to make it more legible. there are two magnets. lying side by side on a wieghing scal they wieh 100 grams. now will they wiegh 100 grams if only one is lying on the scale and the other one is suspened on the top of it by levitation. i mean how will the suspended magnets wieght translate into the magnetic push affecting the base magnet. will the wieght be equalt to 100 grams or will it be less or will it be more. dats wht i wanted to know.

you guys all sound like me... my study skills are non-existent. lol i always look for lazy shortcuts. sparknotes for almost every book since my soph year of hs. in math, especially when the grading doesn't count for hw too much in the more advanced classes, i stopped doing hw. just learn how to do it in class, pay attention and learn from classmates. and then just bs the hw in class to get points haha.

and a important lthing that others mentioned earlier is learn to add notes in your calculator. it saved me more times than i can count lol.

ooh and for group projects lol make sure you get with all the smart overachievers for partners. then you can get by doing even less. and they'll still do the work anyway because they want the A.

Desbravo, W T F.

yeah taking notes saves alot of time for later. its better to read one page of key points than to read 5page chapter from da book

anyone read of mice and men?

cheers everyone, even the ones that basically told me i dont have a chance in hell. truthfully i need a kick in the butt to get me started. and some ritalin.
and to the guy that said einstein-type intelligence is non-existant, actually its quite common, but you have to take into account that talent accounts for nothing if one does not work.
ever heard of an actor who doesn't learn his lines? of a guitarist who doesn't practice or know his strings?
anyway my fear is that no matter how smart or dumb i am i might end up being one of those underachievers who can only get so far in life.
AARGH i should be working right now but im still typing on the computer! I feel like im going round in circles i hate the way i am right now.. AAAH im bloody useless!
i always subconsciously trying to get away from work *** i think its becoz im afraid of responsibility associated with success, and independence, which means that i can live an adult life along with all the crap that comes with it and maybe im afraid of that, and want to stay a kid forever, like Peter Pan..

i need a therapist.

Yeah, Desbravo, where do you think the weight would go otherwise? The magnet suspended by levitation is basically like stacking the magnets, or seperating them by an invisible pole.

And you guys need to learn what I learned the end of my sophmore year in high school: no one cares about how smart you are- they only care about results. There are millions of losers running around talking about how smart they are and what they could of done, but really have done nothing with their lives (not saying anyone on this forum is necessarily one of them). What does it matter that they had potential? In my opinion, people who had potential and wasted it are much worse than those who have no real talents. I mean, I see where you guys are coming from- I slept through every one of my classes in 9th and 10th grades and made almost all A's. But you have to realize that eventually, raw intelligence will mean little, and the overachievers will take your slots at top universities and jobs in later life. It doesn't matter how smart you are- eventually you have to start working.

And yeah, I can probably say in all modesty that I've known more than a large number of my teachers. Most of my high school classes have been a complete waste of time. But in most classes, you can find stuff to take from the classes by participating more. You can get good relationships with your teachers, which is very useful for recommendations, scholarships, etc. You can learn things in subjects that you don't want to learn on your own. And most importantly, you can learn organization which I think really doesn't come naturally to bright, jaded students. Although high school sucks, you need to get from it everything that you can- and use it as a spring board to get somewhere where you don't have to deal with ******* idiots all day long.

Oh, by the way, I've read Of Mice and Men.

Nick, you sound like you want to work- you might just have bad ADD. Just eliminate all of your distractions- go someplace where you can't possibly be distracted, like the library. At times, I've actually removed the hard drive from my computer and had my mom hide it. Freeing yourself from being distracted is really, really hard, but if you force yourself to do it long enough and use enough self disciplline, it becomes a habit.

thanks feez, guess what i need is to work until it becomes a habit. i just worked for an hour, and it feels so much better than not doing anything.
anyway seeing as im a sophomore i still have a slight shot at goergetown or whatever. sometimes i just get too caught up in the philosophical babble like "whats it all for" and "life is all work work work, get money.. and then what?"
i think too much.
anyway thanks for the help and maybe achieving high grades wont be as hard as i thought.

by the way is it possible to work in the CIA or NSA or have a high-ranking position within the US government if im not american from birth? working within the US government has always tremendously interested me. youll think im crazy if i tell you why.. in fact i pry shouldnt, seeing as how they could be recording my communications right now...

Yeah, it's definitely not too late to start working. Many colleges don't even consider your early grades- I know stanford doesn't ask for freshman grades.

feezu r u certain tht the wieght will be the same. u have some formulas thru whihc i can translate the wieght into magnetic repulsion and then retranslate it again into total wieght. besides i agree dat the worst ppl are the ones who have talents and they waste it. and dats why one thing i am gonna make sure of is dat this thing doesnt happen to me. anyways my HS was real crap. in all modesty:) i wasnt allowed to participate in most of the classes. like even if the teacher wud ask a q and i wud want to answer the q the teacher wouldnt aloow me. and most of the teachers gave the reason dat i learn quicker than other kids so i disrup thier pace of learning so dats why i shud keep my mouth shut in class.
yup sadly it is true in todays world ppl really care abt results which is sorta maddening. i wish we had genetic IDS thru which we r automatically sorted out but then i am juss too lazy to be saying dat. but the thing is raw intelligence does matter. when yu researching and on the brink of the discovery its ur intelligence dat will matter not ur grades and dats where true sincere ppl really shine out. no matter whihc uni smeone goes to or wht grad college in the end all that matters is wht u have done with ur life.
nick heres an extreme idea for extreme measures. its something called selective study. its not reccomended because it will give u trble when u go to an advanced course but it helps if u have an ap exam in 3 weeks and u know nothing abt the subject. For successful selective study u have to know the exam patterns. how the questuons are set. do questions from all the topic comes. are thier any choices. thru this u can devise a strategy as to wht chapters are most likely to come and dstudy thise. warning it doesnt work always. now wht to do if questions come from each chapters with no choice. for dat u need to know the grading system of ur exam. u need to find the minimum number of marks u need to get an A grade or whtever grade u desire. increse a little to dat number of marks for a safety margin. then see how many questions you actually have to solve to get that grade. if the paper has 12 questions each from a chapter and u only have to solve 10 to get an A grade dat means tht u can not study two chapters. u drop the 2 chapters tht are the toughest or take the longest time to prepare. then u can study the remaining 10 chapters really good so u make no mistake in questions from those chapters i paper u give. this way u will get ur desired grade wothout studying everything, but this is an extreme measure only and it causes trbl later on. so make sure u go thru the chapters u skipped after the exam.
feezus good luck with ur MIT reply. not much chance for me in MIT but hope u get in.
peace bro

Nick333,
Congratulations on your impressive turnaround. I've been reading your posts from the beginning -- when you posted about your chances of getting into an Ivy. I am impressed about how the answers have inspired you to take your coursework much more seriously.

Colleges are far more interested in accepting students whose grades got stronger throughout high school than in accepting students who coast. Your improvement will impress colleges, and also will give you the skills and work ethic that can help you get into top professional and graduate skills.

Keep up the good work, and keep letting us know how you're doing.

i realize a lot of people may not like what uncle feces wrote, but i have to say i agree with him. Losers who brag about their non-existent smarts and blaming poor grades and such on laziness and procrastination are losers, and well, they're stupid! I'm not refering to you nick, I was just talking about sone people i know. I think you're def on the right track, and you'll def have a shot at ivies as long as you keep up the good work and effort.

" Losers who brag about their non-existent smarts and blaming poor grades"
blue u misundastood feezus. he meant ppl who have talents and then waste them, not ppl who dun have talents but brag abt them

oops, sorry. But ya know, talent was meant ta be wasted. If one has talent, it always comes through one way or another. I was talking bout intelligent/talented people wannabes.

to answer your question about working in government, you most certainly can have a high position. the only job that is closed to you is the office of president.

All this talk of talent and work and stuff is reminding me of my old thread.

You know.

"DO I HAVE TO GO TO COLLEGE?"
