I am currently a freshman in college and i am planning to work over the summer on an on-campus job. Will the money that i make over the summer affect my financial aid ?

PS: This job will most likely not be considered work study b/c i am working over the summer. Actually, can the money that I earn over the summer be considered part of the spring or fall's work study money since i haven't used it yet?

i believe fafsa lets you make up to around 3k before it affects your efc.

if you got your job through work study then it would be counted as work study. otherwise if you got a job privately its not work study so you still have work study for the fall and spring.

only 3k!?

I thought it was like 5k ?

uh oh.

it is 5k if you are a independent, but i am assuming you are dependent since most students still file with their parents.

dude i barely started working and i almost have 3k

i plan to attend USC next year and the aid right now adds up to about $32000 (i had very little income last year, but my parents has stayed the same)

will it drop dignificantly if i go over 3k?? Should i stop working?

i am not sure how if will factor into usc but i've been told on this board that any over 3k income, you are expected to contribute 50% of it which is part of your efc.

i would not stop working if you really need money to attend usc, because you only have to contribute half of it which is it better than taking out a bunch of loans.

naw i dont NEED this money, its pretty much for personal use
