Interned with a company and received a job offer for after I complete grad school. I already graduated when I completed this internship and interned because I intended to go to grad school. When I went to register for grad school, I wasn't interested in the program and felt working was more beneficial for me, hence decided to take my job offer. How do I explain to the company I want to work ASAP? Do I just explain it to them the way I just explained?

You could just go to grad school part time and let them know that you felt it would be best to go ahead and start getting hands on experience to compliment what you are learning in the classroom and will apply there.

Just go ahead and call them and tell them that you would like to start work ASAP instead of going straight thru to grad school.

You can tell them that the grad program wasn’t exactly what you were interested in and that is the reason for wanting to start work now.

I am always torn between advising people to go straight thru from undergraduate to graduate school. Straight thru is good if you know EXACTLY what you want to do. If not, then working for a while will help focus your ideas of what to study in grad school. Working can also put you in a position where the company you worked for will pay some or all of your grad schooling.

I’m surprised a company would make a job offer for that far into the future.

Just be straightforward and explain your situation and ask if the work offer can be changed so that you can start work ASAP. Put a positive spin on it, and say how positive your internship experience had been, and it has influenced you to want to begin working immediately.
