Hey everyone. So I’m a junior who’s already taken the SAT in October, and I’m satisfied with my score of 2290 (730 CR, 770 M, 790 W).
Now before the new PSAT was given to juniors, our school gave us an official practice test, and I found it kind of easy. I scored 1450 out of 1520. On the actual test day, the test was very similar to the practice test, and assuming I made around the same score, that could make me qualify for National Merit (I live in Texas so it depends on how other people in my state did). If I do qualify, does that mean I need to prove my merit on the new SAT?
ALSO, regardless of whether I qualify for NMS or not, my school is forcing all juniors to take the new SAT in March (they’re paying for it). I’m worried about this because I don’t want to prepare for that test, but if I somehow bomb it, could that hurt me when applying to schools that require ALL scores to be sent?
Be absent. I’m not kidding you, just don’t show up for school. That score is perfect and for schools that request your entire testing history it could be bad. I got a 31 C on the ACT and the school is making us take it again and even with my score I’m considering not coming.
@camtheman98 I was considering that, but I’m not sure what the consequences would be. Maybe I’ll ask the counselor and explain my situation, though I’m not sure how she would react.
It’s kind of really unfair they’re doing this. I agree with the others–talk to your admins about your situation and be pretty insistent you don’t want to waste your time and possibly risk the chance of hurting your app. I sure as heck would not want to be wasting a ton of time studying for something I don’t need just to try to make sure my app wasn’t tarnished. If all else fails, don’t show up and just pay them back or something (which would also be unfair since it’s not like you signed up for this…). Not like they can actually do anything about it.
