Worried about Financial Aid

I'm really nervous about financial aid and Yale. My family's EFC came out to be ridiculously high.. 36,000 when my mother lost her job this year and we have a family to support in Cuba. We made 114k this year but it was due to my mom having to take out her entire retirement fund to support us when she didnt have a job. Does anybody know how generous Yale is in situations like this? I don't have know how to turned out to look like my family has so much money because we don't and my parents can't afford to pay almost anything for my college education.

Along with all of the information that must be submitted for FA, your mother should also talk to the FA people about your special circumstances this year.

Remember that your EFC is expected to be paid from past savings, current earnings and loans, so your family’s finances this year are only part of the picture.

I can’t comment on how much Y might consider these circumstances, but relatively speaking, they are one of a small handful of the most generous schools in the country, so need based FA is unlikely to be significantly better anywhere other than possibly HPS. If you have merit opportunities at other schools, you should probably consider those.
