Hello, I am a Junior who started SAT too late (this March). Unfortunately, I received a 1450 due to R and W and I am bit worried about SAT getting delayed due to the virus. I do have a relatively high grade of 4.5 (5% in ~600 student) and I have my passion in engineering. I think I have a good extracurricular activities: award in ISEF, published a paper in a journal (IF 4.0), process of another publishing. The thing is, I spend a lot (9 hr+ every day) of my time doing things I love, which is research, and practicing for SAT really seems to be waste of my time. I really want to attend Harvard and I wonder how much a low SAT score affects my chance of admission.
First, a bit of advice. Don’t have a dream school, especially one as selective as Harvard. Harvard is a reach for anyone who doesn’t donate a building.
That being said, anything below a 1500 doesn’t really stand a chance at the ivies. I wouldn’t be surprised, however, if schools change/eliminate testing policies for the incoming class of 2025 due to the SAT cancellations. I would suggest you take the next possible SAT, once this is all over.
Honestly your chances of getting into Harvard are pretty low no matter what your SAT score is. Rather than focus so much on Harvard spend time looking for non ivy schools you that are a good fit and affordable. You want matches and safeties just as much as reach schools. That does not mean you shouldn’t apply to Harvard but don’t rely on it to the point you only think about one school.
Another suggestion might be to have one non academic ec to show that your not just interested in academics and nothing else. It might not matter to all people looking at your application but you might get someone who is bothered by it.
