Is Carnegie Mellon worth full pay? My family can afford it, but is it worth it? I am planning to be a Statistics major, and from the rankings I’m looking at, CMU has one of the best Statistics departments in the world. But ~70k a year is a hard pill to swallow. I do have other schools, but nowhere near in rankings or department strength.
CMU has a reputation among its job fairs, and a lot of students push that if you want a job after CMU, you will get one. After your financial investment, consider your personal time/motivational investment – if you’re willing to do what it takes to involve yourself in the career that you’ve been wanting to be in, then CMU will absolutely do everything it can to get you there. The faculty is full of internationally-renowned people, so also consider the connections you can make by attending. Best wishes
You make of a university what you put in. Without the names of the other universities it’s hard to know what to say. If the programs are close in ranking, then you may do just as well coming out than CMU but hard to make a distinction without the names.
