Hi! We are wrapping up my son’s college search and I saw that BC offers an Islamic Civilization and Societies major. My son wants to do IR with a minor in Arabic so this seems like a good fit for him. Does anyone have any insight or advice about the program or BC in general? I think he might be a good fit for the school but I wanted to get more info before we plan a visit.
His stats:
Stats: 1480 SAT (780E/700M)
SAT2: 780 US History
AP: US History (5), English Language (5)
GPA: 4.0UW
Rank: school does not rank but top 10%
Extracurricular Activities Summary:
Model Congress 9-12, won a Best Delegate gavel at 2017 Yale Model Congress
Scholastic Art and Writing Awards National Silver medalist in writing in 2016, Regional Gold key winner 2016-18. Plans to enter a Senior portfolio in writing in the fall.
Top 10 finisher at the 2015 and 2016 US Figure Skating Championships in ice dance and qualifier for the 2017 National Solo Ice Dance Finals. Also has been teaching learn to skate to kids since 2016 and has been a math/reading tutor for elementary aged kids for the past 2 years.
More specific to his intended major, he took a summer session of Arabic last year at the UNG’s Federal Service Language Academy in Arabic and is in Morocco doing another course in Arabic that he will hopefully earn college credit for from Tulane U.
He is also looking at the IR usual suspects as well (Georgetown etc).
Thank you heaps in advance to anyone who can shed any light onto this for our family!
