Would Emory be a good choice?

I am planning on starting my own personal training business after college, which means I would major in some type of business or economics (possibly with focus in entreprenuership?) as well as a possible double major or just classes involving exercise science/nutrition/kinsiology-type subjects. Would Emory be a good choice for me? Any other thoughts? (Only considering Division 2 and Division 3 schools) Thanks.

anyone? thanks.

Emory has a great business school, but it is competitive admissions after two years at Emory (so, you don’t just decide one day to declare the business major) and I’m not sure how flexible it is (for exercise science, etc.)–nor do I know that it would be incredibly flexible in taking those electives (assuming we offer them). Also, are classes are 4-hours rather than 3-hours, so you take about 8 fewer classes over your undergraduate degree than at peer schools, though the classes you do take are more in-depth.

Also, there is no minor in business, nor can you major in business and minor in something else (though you can complete a second major in the College of Arts and Sciences).

Have you looked at UNC-Chapel Hill? They’re big on sports/exercise science and good and business. UNC also has an minor in entrepreneurship, which I don’t think is really an option in Emory’s economics major. Though, I guess that’s not in the Division you’re looking at.

I was thinking University of Wisconsin (in-state) if I did decide to drop basketball.

Is this something you have your heart set on, or did someone suggest that it was better to have a concrete plan?

the college? or basketball? or the career?

“I am planning on starting my own personal training business after college, which means I would major in some type of business or economics”

That is what my goal is. I love the training and fitness field and want to help others improve performance. I may be off on the major, but that is what I am currently trying to figure out. I made the statement to offer you guys a better idea of my goals so you could give better advice. Does that sort of answer your question? Thank you.

can’t go wrong with goizueta

Goizueta would be a good choice.
Also, look at Claremont McKenna.

Thanks for the responses. I think Emory is out of the question as I am realizing that I am going to need some great merit aid. This would probably take out Claremont as well. Thanks again.

I suggest a state school in the area where you would like to start your business. Much cheaper and more likely to get valuable contacts that will help a start-up.

jason,

Emory offers great merit and financial aid! For merit aid at Emory College, you will need to be nominated by your high school. Oxford College permits you to self-nominate.

How about Babson College in MA. Good sports and superior entrepreneurship program. Also, in the town it is located in, as well as all of the neighboring towns, there are a TON of personal training businesses. I think you would get amazing hands-on experience at this school.
