UMich does offer merit scholarships to international students.
@billcsho
Yeah?
When do they notify then?
@thumper1 @intparent
I applied to Harvard and Princeton and my family income is lesser than 150K.
However, I still wouldn’t apply for FA. Getting admission to those schools is extremely difficult. And even though they are need blind, I’d rather act as a rich applicant ready to give them money
UMich…notification of merit awards by April 15.
Determined. Princeton and Harvard are need blind. The admissions folks will NOT know you are a rich applicant ready to give them money. They will only know you didn’t apply for aid.
I know you said it as a joke, but usually there’s an element of truth in most jokes, and it makes me wonder why you’d apply to a school whose word you didn’t take at face value.
Btw, the “formatting” you asked about is !quote] blah !/quote] with ! replaced by [
This is stupid. They ARE need blind. You could be leaving money on the table. And believe me, you are not “rich” in their eyes. Rich is someone who can help their endowment. You aren’t helping yourself at need-blind schools by not applying for aid if you are eligible.
@IxnayBob @intparent @thumper1
It doesn’t really matter. The deadlines have already passed (Feb 1st).
Thanks for the advice.
I am telling you, the deadlines are not that firm at some of these schools. The requirements for applying can be complicated, and families miss them fairly often – the FA offices mostly will work with you. You could ask. It is not clear why you even came out here to post…
Some of your schools don’t give aid to int’ls…GT, UIUC, and other publics.
Do your parents have a good bit of savings? If they can afford $60k+ (int’l costs), and they earn less than $60k, plus they’re paying for your sister’s college, then they must have good savings.
If you have a sibling in college at the same time as you, this is considered by colleges here. And that would increase your likelihood for need based aid.
You say their income is more than $100,000…but what about assets? This includes savings and any other bank accounts.
Where is $60,000 a year for you PLUS your sister’s college costs coming from? IF this money is in savings, then this asset would also be counted in determining need based aid.
@determined2300 Large scholarships at UMich should be announced by the mid March while most should be announced these few weeks. The deadline for acceptance of these scholarships is May 1. Smaller ones may be announced later. There is no real deadline for announcement as they may re-distribute the scholarships from declined students afterward.
I would recommend you look at Harvard’s Net Price Calculator, IF you get in you could get substantial money. With 2 kids in college, income of $150k and a family of four with little/no assets the Net price would be around $15k ($12k parents $3k student employment).
I am sorry, but the title of this thread in combination with those high SAT scores rankles my grammar-dar.
I agree with post 32. But the poster did say that his family was paying in full for his sister, and could pay full for him to attend college. Assets are also counted in the need based equation…and being able to pay in excess of $60,000 a year implies at least some assets.
I also said she studies in an inexpensive college. Her tuition+board is almost 10K.
So, should I shoot an email to Harvard now?
There’s still hope?
@determined 2300- None of the public colleges offer any Financial Aid to Internationals that includes Gtech,UIUC etc
For private colleges you need to send filled in CSS profile in which you need to tabulate all income and expenses for past year,current year and next year.Income should be substantiated with Tax returns or Employer’s salary certificate if no Tax liability as in Middle east.So Colleges will determine your need based on these figures.You cannot decide how much you want.The colleges determines your need
