Would it be better to do band/marching band for 3 years or 2 years?

I'm a sophomore right now but I have to decide on my courses for next year.
I'm planning to take
ap lang
ap calc
ap us history
physics
pe/another 1/2 yr course
japanese
and band

My mom's worried that because marching band takes up a lot of time it would be kinda like taking another ap course. I'm only doing 1 ap this year and she thinks that doing 3 aps would take a lot of time. (I'm doing fine in my english and precalc class right now if you needed some information about how I'm doing now)

I don't really hate band/marching band but I'm don't love it either.
I'm not really the best at my instrument and I'm not really planning on trying to get a scholarship through band either. But I read places that if you do band/marching band it looks better on your college app. Plus, I'm not doing any sports. But I am in Key club and I do some volunteer work through that and some other volunteer work outside of school.

Also, if I take out band I don't really know what i would replace it with anyways...
So would doing 3 years of band/marching band be better than doing only 2?

My last year of high school, I took 4 AP courses and marched with the band. I basically went to school, went to band practice, went home, did homework, and then slept. NO social life during the marching season. But it can be done. What took the most time was AP Calculus and AP Physics homework, but I didn’t mind because I really liked it. I could easily spend 3-4 hours a night JUST doing that homework, not including working on AP Lit (thankfully, I didn’t have a lot of nightly homework in that class, just papers) or studying for AP Government. But it all depends on your teacher - my calculus/physics teacher (the same person) was an excellent teacher and he knew the best way to learn how to work the problems was to give us practice ones that looked like the exam, so he just gave us a couple of long problems to figure every day and that’s what we did. I also loved band, so…

Some extracurriculars are good on your application, but band is not a requirement or anything - as long as you have some things that you have shown sustained interest in, you can drop it. At my HS, you could take band but not be in the marching band - is that not a possibility at your school? That would take less time because you wouldn’t have to go to practice every evening.

Don’t do activities that you don’t enjoy because you think colleges do.

yea if i take band we have to be in the marching band…
my main concern is because i don’t have that much extra curricular activity…
i mean i don’t hate it and i don’t really know what classes to replace band with since i did it for so long >.<

Oh my god you are exactly like me except I’m a junior. My mom is really hesitant to keep me in band, I don’t hate or love it, and I keep myself in it because its one of my main extracurriculars. During my junior year, I took six weighted classes while doing marching band and it was incredibly difficult, but I forced myself to do it for colleges and extracurriculars. I plan on staying in band during all of high school and if you are serious about getting into a high ranked college, then I suggest that you stay in band and try your best in it while keeping your grades up. If you are worried about your grades, then it is alright to drop band so you can have more time to focus on school and your other extracurriculars.
