Would it be too late to join the science olympiad?

It's already October and I couldn't find a ride in the beginning of the year to go to the meetings. I still really want to do it, but I have a feeling I'll be very behind. I had a short talk with the science club teacher, but it's really difficult talking to him because he doesn't give straight answers. He said something like, "Uh...yeah. Well, we compete and meet on Wednesdays. We travel..and stuff. Lots of building and stuff...and uh...yeah. I mean, I uh...yeah, I guess..." He's not known for being a great communicator.

I doubt he'll stop me from going to the meetings and stuff, but I'm just wondering how behind I'll be. I'm planning to go to my first meeting tomorrow. I don't know what they'll be doing, but if they're working on a project or practicing for a competition, how do I get myself involved? If they're already practicing, do you think I'll be allowed in that competition?

It really depends on your school.
My school hasn’t even decided what events each person is doing. So if you were at my school, you wouldn’t be behind at all.

If your school has a good team and has been practicing for a while, you might have trouble making the team. My middle school had an insanely good team (50+ people), but my high school can’t even field one full team (which is 15 people).
