Would it hurt if I said I was in love...

... with their school?

What I mean is, would the admission officers see it as if I were some obsessive fool?

it depends on the school... (what school is it for) unless you have a very casual or funny tone i wouldnt say that

I doubt that they would consider you to be a fool. But they would not think that that particular statement distinguishes you from other applicants.

It sounds dumb. Don't do it.

Ok... I'm getting mixed opinions so... here's what I wrote:

"However, as I walked up Palm Drive in the bright morning sun one day last winter, the dream became alarmingly real.

After staying up the whole night researching Stanford once I came back from my trip, the matter was decided: I was in love."

Then I go on to explain why I loved the school so much etc. Does this sound ok?

I'll stick with my previous comment. :)

It doesn't matter what you say, but what you SHOW. Meaning, as long as the reasons you have for "loving" the school are strong enough, then your statement will have a purpose other than making appear to be obsessive.

It's simply a risky approach, one that may or may not work, but you have to write it well. Good luck.

Exactly what catsushi said. If you're writing what you just posted, the next sentences better back up WHY you love the school (specifics)

Specific details a) are personal and therefore b) cannot be cliche
