Would it look bad to take 10 credit hours for my final semester?

Hello all,

I'm a senior majoring in Mathematics (minor in computer science and genreal business) who will be graduating this December (one semester early) and my goal is to get into Stanford's Computer Science graduate program. I have a 4.0 major GPA.

My question to you is, would it look bad if I took only 10 credit hours for my final semester versus a 13 hour alternative? I'm thinking about dropping my independent study Computer Graphics course so I can focus on studying for the GRE, finishing my application essays, and gaining work experience. However I'm worried my application might not look as good if I am not a full-time student during my final semester. I was told that my independent study course, while in the computer science field, wouldn't necessarily look good or bad on my application which is why I would drop it.

Thanks for any and all responses!

What are you studying in the independent course? Is it research? My understanding is that such courses are valuable for grad school. Who told you it doesn’t matter, if it was your prof, then why are you asking here?

Are you going to apply for just Masters? You should use the Graduate Forum because this section is just for kids applying to undergraduate.
