Calmom is stating correctly as what I was asking. I was not as articulate as she is.
@NCkris thanks we are very happy with outcome. Son has revceived very generous need based aid.
Dear wise parenrs can our family choose to pay monthly payment instead of f spring and fall payment
Many colleges offer a monthly payment plan. This is something you need to Check with the college your son chooses. Our kids’ colleges used a monthly payment service (it was TuitionPay at the time), and we used it.
So…look on the website for the college OR give the bursars office a call. They will be able to tell you if a monthly plan is available at this college.
Thanks @thumper1. I tried to call financial aid office, unfortunately they are closed.
Well…yes. They usually don’t work on the weekends. Try Monday morning.
The Penn financial aid office is friendly and helpful (that doesn’t mean they will change the award, of course), and yes, if your son ends up there, you can set up a monthly payment plan.
I’m articulate in my native language (English) – and totally incompetent in any other language. So don’t worry – I have nothing but respect and admiration for anyone who is bilingual or multilingual – and you are asking good questions and doing a great job of communicating your needs. And I fully understand that it is difficult for you to get the information from the college websites when English is a second language for you – and also that you are probably in a very different timezone, so calling the financial aid offices may also be difficult to coordinate.
Do not hesitate to contact the FA offices at the schools, they are there to answer your questions. Have a list of things you want to ask ahead of time so you don’t lose track of what you are trying to find out. They aren’t going to take away anything and you may get something else. But if you don’t ask them, you won’t really have the answers you want/need. If language is an issue, perhaps you can have someone else on the phone with you or ask the school if they have someone that can assist you in a primary language, you may find they do!
Very good options - congratulations to your son and family.
@tdy123 I just saw your post and have read your link. Thanks for this, we have another very good offer from another computer science school. And have no idea now as how to select.
Please, please let your student make this choice, assuming the finances are OK. Remember, he is going to college, not you. He really can’t go wrong with his choice.
@Cadremain thanks for your post. Language is not an issue but sometime tone and useage of words can be a problem as I am more used to British style English. We have another offer on Friday that is very generous and son may be headed there as this school is in heart of silicone valley.
Stanford? Or Santa Clara?
Also, what top 20 schools gave him “full merit”, because you know, one of those schools might just be better for his field of study than an Ivy or Stanford.
@mathmom right?
Thumper believe me Son is going to make decision and not parents. The reason I am asking question as he refused to come to CC and thinks that he rather do something constructive and not read CC posts. I have been let him run with the process and yes we are fortunate enough we can support in whatever he chooses to do.
stanford
My kids both made college choices without CC help. My older kid made his college choice before i even joined this forum. Your son doesn’t need this forum to make his matriculation decision. Presumably, he vetted his choices before applications were sent.
If Penn isn’t in his top three choices at this point and he doesn’t plan to choose that school…it might not be worth the time to do a financial aid appeal.
Maybe weather can be the tie breaker. It sure is lovely year round at Stanford…no snow, no freezing cold days, lots of sun.
He finds CC neurotic. He is a good kid but just private enough unlike me.
He’s right.
Congrats @hariputralake for his Stanford acceptance.
Most colleges have a monthly payment plan option, for a small fee,I.e. divide semester fees into 4 monthly payments. Also, he can get a PT job on campus for extras, eating out etc.
Your son has to decide which school he likes personally, as he seems to be an outstanding student.
Stanford is not just a technical school but strong overall.
Good luck to your family !
