Would this be frowned upon?

I've heard that med schools don't appreciate it when one starts off at something and then goes on to do something else, or has a weird back up plan. An example is someone majoring in nursing as their backup plan and then applying to medical school. This person would be a nurse if they didn't get in.

What do med schools think of people getting a teachers certification with their degree? I really want to be a doctor, and I have no doubt about it. If I wasn't a doctor I would want to be a teacher. Would it be ok if I did this? My major is biology and education would be my minor.

The problem isn’t the backup plan per se. The problem is that degrees of this sort tend to be lacking something: a broad-based liberal arts background.

If you got a teacher’s certification while attending a broad-based liberal arts program – e.g. while majoring in biology or history or something like that – then I can’t see medical schools complaining about it.
