Hey guys,
I'm going to take AP Physics next year and all the prep books say "AP Physics B." Does this cover AP Physics? I mean, what does the "B" mean? Just confused me because I know there is Calculus A&B and the letters mean something. Just wondered if there was like an "AP Physics A."

B is the "easier" version of the 2 AP physics courses offered (the other is C)

I think I remember reading about this somewhere. Colleges usually have three levels of physics: A, B, and C. A is the equivalent of a high school level course (for review), B is meant for non-physics-related majors (aka it's more conceptual), and C is meant for engineering and physics (and related) majors - it's mathematically rigorous and requires calculus.

Since AP's correspond to college-level work, the Collegeboard saw no reason in having an AP for level A, so they just have B and C. However, since C is so rigorous as a year-long course, they divided it into two exams that are the equivalent of semester courses in college. They are Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism and Physics C: Mechanics.

Check with your guidance counselor, AP Physics teacher, or course description to find out whether your class is meant to prep you for the B or C exams.

Oh, and I've heard that Princeton Review has the best AP Physics (both B and C) books around.

Yea, like at my school, they only offer AP Physics B but not C:EM or C:M.

:)

Mine doesn't offer AP Physics. Just Modern Physics Honors. Which is the equivalent of AP. But the teacher doesn't want her curriculum to be restricted by the syllabus of the AP exam, so she does whatever she wants and encourages her students to take the C exams.

my school only offers ap physics c (both sections in the same year)

The difference is that AP Physics C includes calculus on the exam, whereas Physics B does not. However, to compensate, Physics B covers a wider range of material, such as optics, etc. One isn't necessarily harder than the other, just different.

Thanks everyone who replied to my question! You don't know how much you helped me. I really appreciated your knowledge on the issue.

puppydogeyes, i think you are hot :) j/k
