Our financial aid was in a separate tab at bottom of applicant portal page. Unfortunately just merit no aid except offer of 5k loan. School will be 41k. A lot but we’ll consider it.Congrats all!
If you received any financial aid, it came with the acceptance, I was also accepted EA2 yesterday, male 13k presidential scholarship. After need-based financial aid it will still cost me about 44K/year. That is way too much for me to afford unfortunately.
Thought this was a good place to post WPI’s retention and graduation rates as compared to our official Carnegie comparison institutions. By these two metrics measuring returning students for second year and completion by year six, only Cal Tech, MIT, CMU and Tufts show better numbers. Please also note that these metrics are on the upswing and do not yet reflect the great class of '22. It is our collective job to always improve while having some fun on the job! You will be class of '23 and your collaborative competition is the class of '22.
@retiredfarmer I actually had Jim Demetry for controls - one of my favorite profs. Chris was just coming to campus as I was finishing but is now married to my friend Prof. Rick Vaz.
I remember Rick Vaz as a very enthusiastic graduate student who wanted to do the same thing for the graduate program that the Plan was doing for undergraduate studies. The collection of these individual efforts made the team that made it happen. I did not know that Rick and Chris had married, but it helps explain their stamina!
I left for money, but did not get rich. Thank goodness for the old WPI pension plan and the beauty of rural Maine!
My son just got in with 11K a year Presidential Scholarship, nice but 45K a year with two older brothers in school (RPI and Bentley) as well will be tough!!
Very interesting thing happened. He was Wait-listed about 5 days ago, then got his acceptance letter like he was never on the wait list. Is this common? And do they give Merit money to kids on the wait list?
Thanks
Was he wait listed or deferred? I have heard of this happening at other schools if deferred from early application. It could be a numbers game since he will be counted in the regular decision statistics now. Can I ask his major?
My son was accepted 2/8/19 with a $44,000 award, $11,000 per year. We are happy that he was accepted, but disappointed with the award in comparison to other schools he applied to. Guess we’ll have to wait and see what the last few offer as well before making the decision. This school was his first choice, but now since he’s seen what other schools have offered, he is waiting before he accepts.

My D was accepted EA 2 with $26,000/year merit. We were also offered FA. This is the school of her dreams, but we are looking at a $33,000/year deficit. Even with her taking maximum loans it is a $28,000/year deficit. I believe the school was generous so I am not complaining just trying to figure out if we can make this happen.
@benee16 Impressive stats
Best Wishes to you and your D !!! My son was accepted too 13K/year, I’m not complaining ether however the numbers don’t work. My S was also accepted to UMass Amherst Honors College 3.5K/year. I don’t want big dollar loans for us as a family or him. It’s to bad WPI was is his first choice it’s a GREAT school but way to costly for many. So he will be attending UMass in the fall.
My son was also accepted with 12k a year merit, it seems like girls are getting higher $, with tuition and all near $70k, $12k is not even a dent and WPI was first on his list ?
@Myson My D was also accepted to Umass Amherst RD. She did not get Honors college though we were not too surprised as her major is very popular. Her safety U Lowell accepted her to Honors College with merit making it very affordable. Still, for the overall experience WPI is an opportunity of a lifetime. We are having some serious discussions. I can understand how you could not turn down the UMASS Amherst Honors college. Best wishes
I am wondering what real benefits can be expected from an honors college making up for non honors at RPI?
I meant WPI (not RPi)
DS admitted for Mech Eng with $12,000 merit. But he has applied for the FIRST Innovation Scholarship. I guess they notify on that one mid April. Here’s hoping because $48,000 isn’t going to work. He also got Virginia tech, Purdue, UC Riverside, SDSU, and Cal Poly. Still waiting to hear from UC Berkeley and UC Santa Barbara. Unless the FIRST scholarship happens I think we can’t beat Cal Poly SLO, in state is less than $28,000 all in.
My son also has applied for the FIRST Innovation Scholarship. He has been accepted to RPI, RIT, Syracuse University, Binghamton, and Quinnipiac and we are waiting on CMU. WPI offered the least for scholarship, and he is hoping for more money from the innovation scholarship. Me too!! He’s won 2 innovation awards for his ideas during competition.
The RD decision releases will be Monday, March 18 at 5:00 PM EST according to WPI Admissions tweet earlier today.
oh my gosh wishing luck for everyone today!
