oh wow, why does he do that?

That's one of the silliest things I've heard. Yes, "institute" also spans the ITT Techs of the world, but any decent firm locking for an engineer knows that RPI, WPI, CalTech, MIT, etc. are amazing engineering schools. If the firm can't understand that and don't bother learning from others that institute doesn't always mean a college substitute, then they're probably not a particularly good place to work if you're looking for a job that is intellectually satisfying.

IMHO. :)

Very good, but very different schools. You aren't going to go wrong with either one on your resume.

WPI is smaller, about an hour outside of Boston (solid 40 miles beyond 95 on the Pike, and another 10 miles or so into Boston), and about 85% of its engineering students are male. Campus, as I recall, is fairly nice. BU is larger (huge), in the middle of Boston, has almost no campus, but, well, is in the middle of Boston and has the opportunities that come with being able to intern in the city. BU is well-regarded outside of engineering. If you are thinking of engineering + another path (such as medicine, law, etc), then BU would be a great place. If you are thinking straight-upp engineering, never want to sit in a poetry class in your life, then try WPI.

As I said, you aren't going to go wrong with those. Neither one is the Bunker Hill of engineering.

WPI also has lots of abroad project options that prob would look good on the resume.
