Wright State Talk 2015

My son is blissfully unaware that decisions are coming this week or how they are coming. We made a decision early on not to check portals and I don’t share any cc information with him. He has not been involved in any of the waiting craziness and is busy at school. Of course, that means I’m doing double-duty and tearing out my hair at twice the normal rate. Wigs, anyone?

Right there with ya. I’m keeping this away from him. Although he’s expecting 3-4 replies this week and next.

Good thoughts, good thoughts, good thoughts. . .

We will all get through this. By April 2nd this madness will be over.

Know that those of us “on the other side” are worrying with you!!! Fingers and toes crossed.

:-S a whole nother week and still no word. Sending good wishes out into the universe for the coming week!

According to S, it sounds like the “early” acceptances were mostly students who auditioned from within the WSU Theater department. S thinks one is MT, maybe a “few” Acting. S is not a "detail guy. The two HS seniors (or only one??) we have heard about were accepted at the last on-campus audition. (S is not clear if one of this category is REALLY someone from within the department - @MTmom2015 may be able to clarify).

daughter auditioned for MT but received an email for BFA in Acting acceptance. Checking into the curriculum…she is a fan of the MT one and have heard they intermingle the curriculum…

@crc500 when did your D. receive that email notification? We’ve heard nothing. Thanks. And best of luck on your decision process!

Congrats @crc500!! Significant overlap between Acting/MT. In some ways, my S actually prefers the Acting curriculum and has tried to take as many of the “Acting for Acting Majors” as they will fit him into. Acting majors are free to audition for all musicals and DO get lead roles - if that matters.

Congratulations @crc500!!! That’s great news!!!

Hooray @crc500!!! Have your D contact mine if she hasn’t. Everyone auditions for musicals and plays & often actors get cast in musicals and MTs get cast in plays.

@crc500 - the kid who played Jean Valjean at WSU a couple of years ago was an acting major, and he was marvelous! There appears to be major crossover in casting between straight plays and musicals in both directions.

As for acceptances… all I know is that my son (freshman) was told that acceptances would be mailed this past week. That could have meant any day up through Friday… or he could have mis-heard… or they could have decided to hold off for some reason. This is the first year (at least since we’ve been paying attention) WSU hasn’t used rolling admissions and I’m sure they are working out the kinks in a new system. Hang in there, all… it won’t be too much longer.

As for the early admissions… lots of schools are known to make offers ahead of their ‘official’ date. Perhaps the kids in question were just outstanding and they wanted to let them know right away that they are wanted by the program? Who knows.

I’m happy to report my S was the first incoming H.S. senior acceptance BFA MT (notified on campus at the last audition weekend - the next day) and then followed up with mail and email) at WSU and he’s SO Excited. @mom4bwayboy has been SO HELPFUL and the program looks awesome!

Hooray @Dankadon!!! So happy for y’all!

Congrats, @Dankadon, it sounds like a great program!

So excited for your S @Dankadon! Here’s hoping that more good news keeps rolling in for our CC peeps.

Awesome news @Dankadon! A really strong program. Love Joe Deer and the Musical Theatre Initiative with all the guest artists, etc.

To break the tension of waiting to hear about acceptances, here’s a bit more about Tom Hanks’ visit to WSU in April Hopefully, the link to the Dayton newspaper words. http://www.bizjournals.com/dayton/news/2016/03/04/exclusive-tom-hanks-has-busy-itinerary-for-wright.html
