Wright State Talk 2015

Just texted D (who will be working auctions this weekend!) and she said you get 1 minute for each thing and you will get cut off. Always best to stop before your time is up!

Correction to post #138–it was two songs, two monologues in a total of four minutes. Got mixed up there for a while–sorry if this confused anyone.

Thank you all for the responses! I will definitely cut my ballad

Your auditions will consist of two one-minute contrasting monologues and two one-minute contrasting song selections from a musical. Please bring sheet music in the key that you sing in with your musical cutting clearly marked. In addition, there is a musical theatre dance audition. Appropriate dance wear is required. You may only audition one time for the BFA Musical Theatre/Acting program.

BAL to those auditioning this weekend!

Regardless of the outcome, daughter had wonderful audition experience this weekend! Staff and students were very friendly. professional, and organized! Students were very knowledgeable and passionate about the program! Sounded like they had a lot of exciting things in store at Wright State for the future as well.

Does anyone know if Wright State has rolling admissions for MT students? D auditioned for them in November at Moonifieds, and they did not require her to apply to the school first. Trying to figure out if she needs to go ahead and apply to the school or not…

They are no longer doing rolling admissions. If she’s interested, she should apply. The school is a very easy academic admit.

I’m pretty sure the MT application instructions say that all materials must be in by two weeks before audition date - not sure what that means for Moonified attendees - and application to WSU should be simultaneous. To be considered for talent scholarship, everything must be in by Feb. 21 (last scheduled audition date). For academic scholarship, student must be admitted to the university by March 1.

Thanks. I did see those deadlines on their website, but since they waived the requirement to apply academically before the audition for Moonified auditioners, I wasn’t sure what her next step was. I’ll have D reach out to them to see if there is a next step for her…

How do they divide up the audition day? If it starts at 10am

Not sure if it’s the same as two years ago, but when my S auditioned I think the dance audition was first. Then they were split into two groups in separate rooms for song/monologue. Kids who had long-distance travel issues or had some sort of scheduling conflict went first and closer geographical area kids went last. Very low-key and fun.

Just checked with my D & she says that’s still the way they do it. She won’t be there Saturday because of rehearsal, but has worked the other auditions this year.

For those of you interested in diversity and inclusion as manifested at WSU, here’s a news item with a link to a terrific video report on WSU’s current main stage production of Street Car Named Desire.

Jason Robert Brown is coming to WSU next week as part of the Musical Theater Initiative. Looks like a terrific opportunity for the students. http://webapp2.wright.edu/web1/newsroom/2016/02/15/broadway-composer-jason-robert-brown-to-perform-give-lecture/

This past weekend they also had Masterclasses through the Musical Theatre Initiative & from what D said, they learned a lot and had fun doing it!

Our S is on stage that weekend in Spamalot otherwise we’d be there. JRB is one of his favorites.

Bummer. My S is kind enough to let his mom have his extra ticket. Can’t wait. Here’s hoping your S gets good news in the weeks ahead. BAL in Spamalot.

Aww @mom4bwayboy … I wish I could be there, too… But a 3.5 hr drive on a Thursday doesn’t make sense. Enjoy!

Leavin’ work “a little” early. Due to rush hour traffic accidents I barely made it to Adam Pascal in time. Not happening for this one.
