Thanks, I wasn’t sure how it was worded in the acceptance letters. Perhaps all of you already know this, but there’s quite a bit of crossover between the two majors and they share the same classes freshman year. Students also have some leeway in taking classes in the other major as they progress through the subsequent years - space/time allowing and with faculty permission. It’s much easier for MTs to get into Acting classes. My MT S has taken as many extra acting classes as he can cram into his schedule.
Yes, we got the impression that there really was alot of opportunity at Wright State. So frustrating to be waitlisted. We just keep trying to be patient and see where the chips fall.
Lady in the wings still waiting for her cue. . . Try to enjoy winding down of senior year.
@mom4bwayboy Thanks for all of the support! This week my daughter’s last HS show opens and then she has another one opening next week, so we are crazy busy…which is really helping! Just a few more weeks and it will all come together.
The curriculum looks very impressive and my D really loved the faculty and the campus, but she is starting to question whether she would really have the same opportunity grow in MT there as an Acting major. She has other BFA MT acceptances and as much as she likes the program at Wright State, she is torn because she did start this process with her eye on the MT designation. She has a lot to consider.
@sopranomtmom - I totally understand your D’s perspective. Perhaps she is already in contact with some current WSU students to ask questions and see if Acting would fulfill her needs, but if not, I’m sure one of us moms could put her in touch with someone. Good Luck with her decision-making.
@sopranomtmom, I feel like this has been said before, but is worth reiterating - all MTs and Acting majors audition every semester for all shows. One of D’s MT classmates was Daisy in The Great Gatsby, and currently Mr. Hart & Roz in 9 to 5 are both Acting majors. You definitely should have your D talk to current students. And agree, good luck on the decision making!
Thanks for the feedback. She is actually in a Facebook group with WSU students. Also, and I think this is amazing by the way, right after she was admitted she received a phone call from Victoria Oleen to check in and provide her cell phone number for any questions she might have. She is planning to give her a call to discuss what her opportunities are to take voice, music and dance classes in addition to the acting classes. She is happy to be aware already that she can audition for all shows. She really did love the vibe and opportunities there!
Just learned OKCU won’t be getting through their video auditions until 4/15 earliest and end of April latest. They are backlogged 6-8 weeks. That was the other school we were waiting on. So now, do we wait or not? That’s the big question…
Do kids come off the waitlist at WSU every year? If so, does anyone know how many have in previous years?
I am not privy to that info - and my S doesn’t pay any attention to these important things. Does @MTmom2015 or @MTmom2017 know?
D says, yes people do come off the WL, but she doesn’t know how many, or if anyone has yet for this year. Wish I had more info, or a crystal ball!
OK, we’re biting the bullet and going for a visit this Friday even though she’s still on the Wait List. Crossing my fingers that things open up and this becomes a possibility. If she did come off the list, I would want her to have been able to visit. Oh, the juggling! Looking forward to the end of this process. sigh
Me too! Enjoy your visit!
Thinking good thoughts.
Hang in there Mardeen. Best of Luck and have a nice visit!
Thanks everyone! I’m hoping for the best.
Good luck and have a great visit, @Mardeen . My D is also on the WL-and would almost certainly change course if a spot opens up for her.
@owensfolks Thank you for the best wishes. Now I’ll be crossing my fingers and hoping for TWO spots to open up for our girls!
My D just committed to another school, so some waitlister will be getting an offer. Good luck!
