Writing a recommendation for myself about research?

I am applying to B.A./M.D. programs and I know that to get accepted you need some research experience. Therefore, over the summer my father's friend, a cancer researcher, had me go to his lab in metrohealth for about 40 hours so that I would at least have some experience. I applied to one internship halfheartedly before I decided on becoming a doctor so I did not get accepted. The researcher wants me to write my own recommendation because he's so busy which I totally understand.

How do I make it sound like a good recommendation even though I only spent 40 hours there? I knew him personally before so I definitely will put positive personality traits and such but during the research I did not actually do a project. I only helped with some labs.

If anyone has any tips on this problem I'd greatly appreciate it!

Thanks everyone!

Writing your own LOR is hard, but using personal stories is a good start. MD programs know that most high schoolers are not performing ground breaking research and are typically research assistants, but you should include at least some of the skills you learned and some of the projects that were on going in the lab that you helped with.

Thanks IvyHelp! After 5 hours of writing I finished and my professor revised it. It turned out to be a great recommendation if you were wondering.
