I want to write one for Political science. What do students do in those year long seminars? How do you learn how to write one? What are some good resources?

I’m writing one at Cal. Are you at Berkeley or UCR? I don’t know about how Riverside’s is.

Heythanks for the reply. I am at UCR but will be transferring to UCB

It’s pretty straightforward, and I recommend it if you have a genuine interest in a particular topic. You apply to the program with an area you want to explore. The seminar meets once a week (roughly, often meetings are cancelled) and you complete the thesis in chunks. Research question, lit review, data sources, etc.

I went into the honors program (I am political science too) with a very clear sense of what I wanted to look at, and I think it’s helped me a lot. Other students only had general areas of interest. I’d recommend figuring out exactly what question you want to answer early on.

How hard is it to accomplish? I am really interested, but not sure if I would have the time since classes will take up a lot of time

Depends on your topic. It’s a 50 page paper, roughly, completed over two semesters. The toughest part is usually collecting data.
