Writing & Critical Reading SAT1

Hello, I have a question I need help with from the SAT1 Practice exam. It is an old exam, it seems that everyone on the internet has it from 2005, 2008, etc. I need help and clarification and explainations. THANKS BIG TIME.

The following question has to do with a 1999 reading about superstring, relativity theory, and quantum mechanics.

Which of the following, if available, would best refute the author's assertion about the "Young upstart" line 57?

A. Evidence that certain kinds of partices in nature exceed the speed of light
B. Confirmation of conditions that existed in the earliest stages of the big ban.
C. Speculation that the deep interior of a black hole is not as dense as scientists have believed.
D. Mathematical formulats that link general relativity and quantum mechanics in the same realm.
E. Proof that the laws governing the universe depend on the size of the system being studied.

The answer is (E) please explain why it is not (D) but it is (E).

I also have another question in same type of section.

In (areas where deer roam freely), residents must dress to protect themselves against deer ticks that might transmit diseases.

A. areas where deer roam freely
B. areas roamed by deer freely
C. areas, freely roamed by deer
D. areas, in which there are are deer that roam freely
E. areas which deer roam free

Pick the one that has an error. If no error is found, select choice E.

Every Spring (in rural Vermont) the sound of sap (dripping) into galvanized metal buckets (signal) the beginning of the traditional season (for gathering) maple syrup. (No error).

The answer is signal.

I can’t help for the first one. I need to read the passage.
A for the second. No punctuation is needed, and “freely” modifies “roam”, so they should be next to each other.
Last one: “signal” refers to “sound”. Sound is singular, so “signal” must change to “signals”.

Critics dismissed the engineer’s seemingly creative design as being(_________), that is, underdeveloped and lacking in sophistication.

A. defunct
B. unorthodox
C. simplistic
D. erroneous
E. ambigious

The professor commented to other faculty members that Shelia seemed tempermentally suited to the sutduy of log, given her ------ for -------- intricate arguments.

A. sympathy… influencing
B. penchant… evading
C. disregard… unhinging
D. comtempt… following
E. bent… analyzing

Questions 13 through 23 are about the “I have a dream” speech (King).
Why is the answer D and not A about this one?

Lines 31-34 (“Segregation in… schools”) serve primarily to

A. express ambitious hopes for the future
B. challenge the accuracy of historical accounts
C. provide a contrast with other cultures
D. illustrate a point with particular examples
E. defend a series of unusual occurences

Please help [gracias]

thanks a lot!

SAT practice in response to question 21, my first question is in Section 3.

Question 17 from “I have a Dream” is from Section 7.

<a href=“SAT Practice and Preparation – SAT Suite | College Board”>SAT Practice and Preparation – SAT Suite | College Board;

No problem.
6. C, simplistic. Ask yourself, which of the words most nearly means “underdeveloped and lacking in sophistication”?
7. Discard C and D- how would they indicate Shelia is “temperamentally suited” to study? “Analyzing” fits the second blank best, so the answer is E.
17. The answer is D. You can easily eliminate B, C, and E. B and E make no sense, and there is no contrast of “cultures”. Read A carefully. It might make sense at first glance, but does it express “ambitious hope for the future”? The previous sentence does express hope for the future, but the specific sentence does not. D is a safe bet as well.
21. The answer is D again. The author says that Superstring theory makes the previous incompatible equations of Relativity and Quantum physics work together. If they already worked together, the assertion would be proved false. So which answer choice makes the two equations work together? E proves the two incompatible, B supports the idea that the two don’t work together, and A and C don’t refute it directly. If the two are “linked in the same realm”, as in D, they should work together.

The answer is E. We are trying to looking for incompatability because we are trying to refute the author’s statement not accept it.

thanks again for ur tremendous help…
