I had this idea of writing my my “why penn” essay in couplets (we just read canterbury tales in english and our teacher had us write ballads, so I think I have a good grip on it).

It’ll be more informal…should I do it? Anyone?

NO +characters.

are you sure you'll be able to get all the content across in couplets.....it might end up lacking substance dont you think?

go for it, you sound kinda freaky and that would probably keep you out of my classes
;p

if you're applying to college/nursing/seas, no.

hahaha afa...i <3 you

yayyyy! eighteen!! =D haven't seen you around in awhile X)

i didnt this actually posted...um yea i didn't do the ballad. wow too hard/weird.

i didn't think this actually posted

you are wierd...

like most colleges say, make yourself stand out through what you write, NOT how you do things (i.e. no drawings of flowers and butterflies all over your app :) ) i wouldn't do the ballad if it was my app..

well... i applied to penn and chicago early, and for the envelope for my counselor, i drew smiley faces (one on the O of the Office of Admissions and the other by where you open the envelope). it was late, i was tired. and i got in to both. so cute things could work, as long as you don't go overboard. it'll at least make the admissions people smile.

that's a really cute idea :) in spite of this, i don't think that your admissions officer is the one who opens the envelope. the secretarial-type people do that (i've read way too many college books...), so i doubt that your cute smiley faces had any effect on your app - unlike a ballad essay.

NOOOOOooooo.

bad idea.

ps - I also finished "reading" canterbury tales. It was torture :

kinetic- me too. we only read excerpts. i thought some of the stories weren't so bad. the one where the wife and her lover sticks their arses out of the window was weird though.

wow if anyone cares, i didnt do the ballad. and yea canterbury tales was torture.

my 'Why Penn' essay was a gothic tale

When kids want to go way off the beaten track on their essays in content or style or presentation, all I can say, is that it better be good. Very good. Or it'll be given a headshake and can hurt you. If it is outstanding, you have possibly caught the brass ring, but there are more misses than successes. Usually if you are so uncertain of yourself that you have to ask around about this, it is not a good idea. The kids who pull this sort of stuff off, well, it is so in their nature, so them, that they almost have to do it. It is part of who they are.
