writing Q

To an Iranian, only a salt desert truly merits the name “desert,” for other types of deserts can be sown with dates, figs, and pistachios and it can be watered by sprinklers or by ancient subterranean canals called qanats. E
i just want confirmations on my reasoning…so and it can be watered is obviously wrong, “it” doesnt agree with “types”, futhermore, can be watered alone would suffice isn’t it??

"it can be watered" is wrong. You are correct, it should just be "can be watered." Any pronoun is unnecessary/awkward in that quote.

okay thanks.

i agree with jamesford and you that "it can be watered" is wrong

"can be watered" works fine

but what about "they can be watered" ?? does that work?

^ yes i think "they" works as well.

hm , im not too sure, i think there has to be a comma in front of the 'and', so maybe they wont work lol, thats y i post it here to ask, ~someone clear things up XD

maybe not "they" but what about "which"? haha, can someone clarify this? I feel like if you use "they" it becomes a run-on, but if you use "which" it doesn't.

which is wrong because it'll refer to pistachios... the sentence is about the types of deserts.

it needs a comma too.

To an Iranian, only a salt desert truly merits the name "desert," for other types of deserts can be sown with dates, figs, and pistachios, and (they) can be watered by sprinklers or by ancient subterranean canals called qanats
