Statement: I'm always embarrassed when I see how slow my model sailboat goes.

The wrong part of this is slow and should be 'slowly' but I was wondering if we had the word 'fast' there instead. I don't know bout you guys, but it just sounds extremely awkward to have 'fastly' there? I know 'quickly' will work, but I'm talking about 'fast' o__o. I would just like someone to clear this up.

well, fast is an adjective and not all adjectives can simply be adverbs by adding a suffix (-ly), however you can use swiftly, quickly or rapidly instead.

“fast” can be an adjective or an adverb. (It is fast. It moves fast.) “slow” and “quick” as adverbs are standard today mainly for imperative statements like “Don’t walk so slow” and “Come quick!” But for general uses “slowly” and “quickly” are the standard adverbial forms. Not all adverbs end in -ly, and some adjectives can be adverbs, too.
