writing question

To insist that a poem means whatever A(one) B(wants it) to mean is often C(ignoring) the intention and D(even) the words of the poet. E(No Error)

which sentence is the best fit?
a. Researchers have found that large fish are more likely to contain high levels of mercury compared to small fish
b. Researchers have found that large fish are more likely than small fish to contain high levels of mercury.

I’m a bit confused on what the answer to this should be

For 1, I’d say that C is the correct answer, because the verbs need to be parallel tense. In this case, “to mean” does not currently have the same tense as “ignoring”, so we have to change the latter to “to ignore”.

For 2, B is correct. The idiom is more…than, not more…compared to.
