Writing QUestion

So theres this one question in the blue book and I have no idea how this is completely correct.

The dolls in the collection, all (A) more than (B) two hundred years old, had been carefully (C) carved for children long since (D) gone.

I was thinking it would be D, but the book says there is no error. Any help?

Well why exactly do you think D is wrong?

The sentence does not sound like a complete sentence with D.

Did you have a problem with long since? It is still grammatically sound; it may sound weird to your ear, but you have to take things literal*.

*Intended irony.

Personally, I think “long since gone” seems redundant…Then again, I’m wrong, so ignore my opnion…

“Long since gone” means “gone a long time ago.”

alright thanks
