Hi, I’m currently browsing the WUE website and I saw that its tuition rate applies to Environmental Science at CSUSM, but the CSUSM website doesn’t list Environmental Science under its WUE tab currently. What is this supposed to mean? I’m looking into CSUSM as a safety school partially based on this WUE stuff, but I’m now confused because the websites don’t have matching information.
Not all majors at each WUE participating school are eligible for the tuition discount.
Also the Cal States give local in-service area applicants (CA residents) priority so I would not consider CSUSM as a safety school using WUE.
@Gumbymom The WUE website itself lists Environmental Science as a tuition discount for CSUSM, but the CSUSM website doesn’t list Environmental Science under its own WUE information page. In that case, which website do you think I should trust? I’ll email the admissions counselor for sure but I was just wondering if you’ve had experience with it.
The web site of the school itself is likely to be more up to date than the WUE web site, which presumably gets its information from the school. Ask the school directly if you are not sure.
I agree that emailing the U will give you the most current info. Also keep in mind that WUE is a merit-based competitive scholarship program. Just applying does NOT mean you will be accepted into the program and get the U you prefer.
A safety is a U you will likely get into AND can afford and be happy to attend. Depending on getting merit aid can be a match but not really a safety.
Contact CSUSM directly is the best approach to get the most current and correct information.
Thanks to everyone that replied! I didn’t know who to email initially, but now I know that it’s best to talk to the school itself so I will do that.
The WUE awards, and who they go to, are up to the schools. Some grant them to everyone who applies, other limit them to some majors or to only top performers. At other schools it doesn’t really matter as the OOS tuition is not 150% of instate, so nothing is saved (South Dakota) and others have other scholarship programs that are just as good (Wyoming has 150% of tuition for a certain combination of gpa/act, and many more students get that than WUE. Some schools accept transfers as WUE students.
It’s up to the school.
