WUSTL Overranked?

Is it? I have been hearing that it is overranked on US News. Like people say WUSTL will not believe that it is my first choice or just say it is overranked.
Is it? And by how much?

I don't know if it's overranked, I just didn't like it when I visited.

However, it gives merit-based aid, which is good for a private school.

WashU is a very good school, I think it deserves 12th.
On the other hand, my friend who goes to Uchicago says it sucks and the 9th place ranking doesn't mean anything

i heard that UChicago is really boring and hard, but all that aside, what sucks about it?

the whole ranking thing is hogwash- what does it matter? seriouslly, what does a college ranking mean to someone applying

Oh I applied to the 27th ranked school in the country, well it was 27th this month, but in the poll it was 30, but over in this publication it was 25, but.....

but seriously, why didnt your friend like Chicago, bc i dont want to end up going there and not liking it

i agree with the rankings thing though. I mean my cousin brad turned down columbia and chicago for vanderbilt. i mean, when it comes down to it, those 3 were all good schools, picking one over the other bc of rankings is like splitting hairs. go where youre happy not the best ranked school.

fastMEd- most of the people saying WUStL are overrated (here, and elsewhere) know little about the school. Its reputation has risen considerably in the last ten years, and if you look at the stats of admitted students, they are definitely on par with schools like Northwestern. WUStL is a school that's good in most areas but not really the best in any. That, combined with its new status and considerable advertising efforts, have made it an easy target. The only thing I really disliked about WUStL is that 75% of the biology majors are pre-med, and I suspect a substantial portion of the other science majors are too. I also dislike the fact that it's not need-blind although it has a huge endowment.

iloveschool, try visiting Chicago (overnighting if you can). It's better to form your own opinions than to worry about what others have said.

I think WUSTL should be ranked about 18.

I'd agree. Well actually around 20 but..
