If Kaplan 12 not worth it, then what worth buying except blue book Reply fast

I think Princeton review is the next best after the blue blook... or get your hands on an old college board SAT book before the test changed. You can still practice critical reading and math in those just not writing.

i guess mcgraw hill's SAT 1 is worth to buy.
i have this three books, princeton 11 practice tests, college board, and the other one is mcgraw hill's.. i guess mc graw hills is the best for learning SAT. then practice in princeton, which i guess it has the test that is a little bit similiar to the blue book. and of course the college board book is a necessity. Mc graw hills also includes 10 practice tests. So overall you will have abundant to prepare rather than taking class.

how much improvements I can have if I use Kaplan 12 test
Since I have kaplan12 and bluebook and my financial status is such a mess, i just want to study SAT with my current materials, to save some $$$$

it is something unpredictable, i guess. it is because SAT sometimes is not merely a book of practices. you have to do some readings, practice some grammar structures for writing and do some essays. basically all kinds of academic learning stuff. it is always possible even for someone that never studies or uses any books have a every high score. just for some facts. Kaplan has a lot of mistakes. for i myself have the same book as yours. i really advise you to do the collegeboard bluebook as compulsory and kaplan as additional. though, kaplan has a good explanation but i find a lot of mistakes. you can also buy 11 practice tests of princeton for cheaper price,, look for amazon.com then try to to have a look at the second hand/used one.

Question: What is the college board blue book??? Is it the 10 real sats?
thanks

yes. VERY good book

um..im am student...well i struggled with my CR score...it was mostly the speed and comprehension...ppls told me to "read, read and READ" ...it didnt really help...so...i bought a book named "Reading Smart"...it was a book explaining how to read "smart"... the book advised readers to do this...

If @ you @ are @ fast @ reader, @ your @ eyes will @ jump around

embarrassingly...I read word by word...what the book told me was that...i should read words in bunch like the sentence above:the eyes should stop three for four times...rather than for each word..... it helped me alot...bumpin me up 10 raw points...

it's just an advise and an idea...

is xiggi ever going to finish up? :(

does anybody know his method for CR?

Crzystuff-
I don't understand the suggestion. Would you re-state please in a different way?
Thanks.

Does anyone know how often CB comes out with a new blue book? Is it yearly and if so , what month?

Im guessing xiggi gave up...what happenend it was going so good for the first ten pages and then the last 17 pages of this thread are garbage, with a bunch of people posting a bunch of stupid questions.

I guess doing the 8 practice tests is the most important. Kaplan the 12 practice tests contain too many errors The CR is lot easier than the actual SAT and the writing is totally different from what is tested. Use the 10RS for extra CR and MATH. the princeton review, the one with 11 pr, is also good enough, especially for math and writing. the critical reading is not really accurate i guess. The pr cracking the new SAT, i found out the tips was crap and dumb, What the heck with Joe blogg and the POE or plugging in. Some math can be easily done without stupid PR's joe blogg and plugging in method. it is a dumb ass book i guess. better buy the practice tests.

I agree with earlier comments that the most important SAT prep book you can buy is the College Board's blue book. However, I do have one small piece of caution to offer. In the chapter about Identifying Sentence Errors (chapter 10), the College Board authors present an extended treatment (almost 6 pages) of a single point of grammardangling participles. Should we conclude on the basis of this that dangling participles are a heavily tested item on the Sentence Error questions?

Maybe not. I have just made a flying skim through the 144 Sentence Error questions that, in total, appear on the eight exams in the blue book, and I find NO question where a dangling participle is the error that you are supposed to point out.

Conclusions: (1) The blue book would be more helpful if it gave a lesson on some point of grammar that's more prominent on the Sentence Error questions. (2) Don't skip the lesson on dangling participles, however. They DO show up pretty commonly on the questions about Improving Sentences.

Participle - the modifying phrase - it often appears in the sentence correction. I mean it is the most tested material i guess. Knowing how the participle is used as the modifying phrase is essential i guess.

Moreover, When i took a look at the Cracking the New SAT. I felt disappointed to discover that the 'cracking method' is not really suitable for the Real SAT. The POE or The joe Bloggs seems really stupid method. However, the CR - is good to read - though it is sometimes ambiguous, but it is still relevant. the Math is a typical Math and the writing is OK. I myself conclude that the best preparation books, besides the CB 8 practice test, are the, SAT online course, 11 practice tests from PR and Cracking PR ( but don't waste your time on the joe bloggs, skip that idiot method). Grammatix is good for your 8 practice tests too, it gives you a tactics and the patterns. If you do have the old 10rs you can review them, they are really good, though sometimes the math have irrelevant question but some are still relevant for the New SAT. i got 1980 - i am not US citizen - M - 700 V - 570 - W 710, This is only what i know. Typically SAT is not something to study too much, it is something to practice and to get use to the type of the question. studying too much without noticing the mistake, will only make you repeating the same mistakes. That's all what i can share. Any suggestion for preparing SAT ?

Xiggi,

where is your CR tips!? I can't wait!!!

is he still giving tips? ive been waiting for the CR tips for a long while... :(

XIGGI COME BACK!

This thread is so huge. Does anyone have Xiggi's tips on one page? I really don't want to search through this monster.

Thanks!

There is much misinformation on this forum. However, that's not too surprising, since only a few really know these tests' design specs, and just as few know what they truly measure, which prep books are useful, how to tell a good tutor/company from a huckster, and so forth.

After a cursory view, I find Xiggi's and most other's evaluations and understanding of the SAT extremely inaccurate.
