Xiggi's SAT prep advice

The summary is here:

xiggi has not posted any updates since then.

Curious about Xiggi’s qualifications. I quickly perused the guidelines and I find flaws throughout. For example, not studying vocabulary. Good luck with that. What will you do when faced with answer choices containing words you don’t know?

A little more about xiggi’s view of studying word lists:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/764274-vocabulary-lists-pros-cons-old-links.html</a></p>

Process of elimination. I never touched a vocabulary list and got an 800 in CR, despite not knowing a few words that were used in the SCs.

Aye, same here as Toasti. Though I do have some Latin background and many years of Spanish, and am a prolific reader, so… that all may have helped too. I know I got all the SC’s right in May.

great post!!!

I was just wondering, what is the best way to interpret the ranges of the scores on the last 8 tests in the BB?

Pick the exact middle of the range as a decent approximation. The range represents the actual score grid for the field test of the SAT given to a number of high schools in spring of 2003, plus or minus the Standard Error of Measurement for the three sections.

This dude is the man. Thanks a billion.

""I don’t really understand the Xiggi method. To me, a lot of it is just common sense. I probably didn’t understand it correctly, and would appreciate it if somebody could explain it to me, but the only difference I see is ‘use only the blue book and no others’. “”

-that’s b/c it is a lot of common sense, but at the same time, it’s a very original to many. So many of my firends, even dating back to the freakin’ eighth grade, were planning on getting private tutors 2 yrs in advance for the SAT. It was like a given to them: to do well on the very critical SAT, one must get a tutor for an extensive amount of time. It was like a direct corrolation, they cared so much they thought the only way to succedd is through tutoring (and draining 3,000$). But this guy xigi, is coming and saying otherwise, proving and backing his position strongly with logic, reason, and , yes, common sense. Through practice tests, and taking them on section by section, using only books and answe r explanations to the official collegeboard tests, iv’e improved my projected sat score from 1740-1900, and that’s like 400 pnts up from my dreaded psat score of soph year. And im not anywhere near done studying. i still have like 5 tests left, and im plannign on getting more tests. Utilizing the “common sense” strategy outlined by xig, i plan on improving to even a 1950-2000. (which has since the begginig been my goal).

Hi…

I’m New and have read a couple of posts from Xiggi…Seems like wise advice and an achievable starting point for many struggling SAT aspirants…

angelfire,
This thread is humongous, if you haven’t already found it, here’s a summary of the xiggi method:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/68210-xiggis-sat-prep-advice-39.html</a></p>

And a mini-guide to the essay that my kids found useful:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/68210-xiggis-sat-prep-advice-49.html#post1061498705</a></p>

I prefer Grammatix to Xiggi’s methods.

Xiggi would be the last person to say that his is the best or only method people should be using. His main point is that prep does work and that you can do it yourself w/o expensive classes.

p.s. D2 used Grammatix for strategies on the CR section, per Xiggi’s advice.

Is there a PDF version of your method that I may download and print, Xiggi?

^See post #948 above or post #566 for a PDF link that works:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/68210-xiggis-sat-prep-advice-38.html</a></p>

hi Xiggi… i m finding a particular problem while going for essays… I m not able to maintain a constant flow of thoughts and pen them down. Can you give some tips for this…

^^xiggi may respond, but also look at the link for essays on post #948 above.

Hey, it was really helpful.

I shall utilize this prep method. I shall conquer the SAT math, I shall win. I shall raise my score 200 points. I can do this. believe in my self.
I will…score 700 or above on the SAT next month.
time to study!!!
