Excellent tips.
Now, where is that analysis of all SAT essay prompts ever used, by topic?

HERE it is!

Thanks for the advice, Xiggi.
CC truly is one of the most helpful sources for an inexperienced applicant like me.

As you seem familiar with the SAT system, I’d like to ask you a question about the curve. If the curve is predetermined, will the curve for international test-takers differ from the curve for US test-takers?

October 2010 International SAT is the same as March 2008 SAT.

March 2008 SAT has a harsh curve.

someone asked how far somebody was able to jump from PSAT to SAT.

My sophomore psat CR score was 390. My SAT score was a 620. I jumped that high without ever touching a book. But I am now attempting to bring it up to a 700< by the end of this year using this method.
So I guess that personal growth and gaining of knowledge helped me.
But this method will be my bible for the next few weeks.

Let us know how it goes. It is a pretty logical approach.

A guy got 2130 on sat taking it 4 times! first time he got 1730 then 1840 then 1940 and finally 2080. Read his story here:
[Scoring a 2130 by William Sidell | Sat Prep](Scoring a 2130 by William Sidell | Sat Prep)

With all due respect Xiggi, after reading your pdf file I respectfully disagre
Word Lists do help significantly. It just depends on the one you use. If you have lots of time, then you can use the long Barron’s List or if you are short on time, you can use the Direct Hits Volumes
They Help Everyone; They Really Do
Dont be deceived by Xiggi;he/she probably wants your downfall
Read Word Lists!!!

I disagree with people’s views about Barron’s. The Barron’s Lists are great. Some statistic:
- Barron’s 94/111
- Direct Hits 34/111
- other lists even lower
So Barron’s is the winner with high amplitudes as well as Gruber’s list is.

I got a 2130 my first time in December (680 CR/800 M/650 W). I’m expecting the writing to go up to about a 700, but the 680 has been hard to bring up. Hopefully the xiggi method and a lot of practice tests will help bring me up to a 700+!

Thanks so much.

my method is:

1- Practice with the Official Sat Study collegeboard
2- Read the strategies on Kaplan’s or the book Cracking the SAT princetown review but dont waste a lot of time with it.
3- Read newspaper and Harper’s magazine ( because some passages are taken from Harper’s magazine! )
4- Notes the words who appear several times in the passages because SAT likes some words. You will anderstand when you will practice with 2 or 3 SAT test and you will the same words appears many times in different passages.
5- Read the source of the articles(passages in the SAT so you can see where they are taken from.
6- No need to the vocabulary list, you cant memorize all teh words, you have to circle le word you dont anderstant but dont circle it the first you read the passage because it’s boring. Circle when you read the second time.
7- For the CR there is questions with line references, go to the line wich refer the question and read the sentence before and after the line specified.
8- Answer the question who concern the whole paragraph at the end. Answer first the wuerstions with line reference, their point are the same in general.

here’s my advice. watch this vid. be inspired. achieve…2400
[YouTube - 2400](<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube)

Hello, Am new to the forum and see alot of SAT info posted. I have 21 students am trying to prepare for SAT, what would be the best study program to use.

@leo try using the direct hit list and princeton reviews hit parade for vocab building.then use princeton review n barrons how to pass the sat for tips and the silverturtles guide(found on c.c.)for c.r. and writing…then the blue book for practice tests…will get 2300+with such an intensive program…all the best.

xiggi ur totally wrong on vocab. vocab is essential to improving one’s critical reading score. in fact, half of my errors from CR come from vocab.

Hey xiggi…I need some help on how to improve, i am most likely going to take the sat my first time in jan/feb next year. On my last diagnostic, which was 3 months ago, I scored about 1800…which is no where near my goal at all. I’m hoping to improve significantly, so I was wondering if u could give me some tips. Thanks

Does College Board have a 10 Real Sat Book for the new SAT? If not, would you suggest I buy the one made for the old one anyway?

Yes, practice is part of the success equation and by all means xiggi’s ideas are very sensible.
Beyond that, there are factors which properly applied can make all the difference to SAT-ACT success.
Top performers worldwide spend thousands of dollars learning them. The likes of Wayne Gretzky, Wade Boggs, Oprah Winfrey have gotten to the top of their game using them.
I was a teacher and Learning Consultant for many years. A top performing test taker is not necessarily the smartest student.
I have taken the strategies that work and put them in a little ebook:
SAT-ACT Test Taking: In the Zone Strategies That Spell Success.
At $4.99 on Amazon, it is the deal of a lifetime.
I wish you all good luck!

Thxxx, it’s a cool tip.

Xiggi can you please help me out a little, I’m confused if I should take 2 or 3 SAT Subject Tests. I am prepared for all the Sciences and Math equally. If I was to pick three I would go with Math 2, Physic and Biology E.

Everywhere I’m applying only requires 2 Sat Subject Tests. Would they view the 3rd Subject and credit me for it? I mean its not difficult for me to give 3, but I wouldn’t want to waste time preparing for a test that wouldn’t even be taken for evaluation. (For arguments sake assume I get 800 in all three if I were to give them.)

Other than that I would also like to ask which book do you think is better, Barron’s SAT Biology, or Princeton Review.

I hope you can help.

~thanks in advance.
