Yale Application: Just a couple questions... Please help!!

Hello!!! I’m a junior and I’m worried about the classes I’m taking in preparation for college. I live in Mississippi, and go to a good, but not like top notch school. My high school, for example, only offers 4 AP classes. One is AP art, which I’m lined up for taking my senior year. One is AP calculus, which I am lined up for taking senior year as well. The third is AP Chemistry, which I am lined up to take senior year. The fourth AP class my high school offers is AP US History, but I took duel enrollment college history instead. I’m taking duel enrollment English composition one junior year and comp two senior year, but I’ve seen people on this website who have taken like 8+ AP classes. I was wondering if my schools lack of AP classes will affect my chances at higher-level colleges, like Yale? Was my choice of dual enrollment for US History a bad or good one?
(The course load I have is considered the most rigorous of my school)
Thanks so much for answering, and sorry this post was so long (please don’t laugh at my sad school lol)

Nope it won’t affect your chances because college admissions officers look at the classes you take in the context of what is available to you (School counselors have to submit a school report along with your application, which includes information admissions officers need to know about your school, like the number of AP courses offered). They won’t punish you for having access to a limited number of AP classes. You took the most rigorous courses available to you, which is a good thing.

I can’t directly say how and admissions officer will view it, but because the whole purpose of AP is to offer college-level classes, dual enrollment classes are probably just as good as taking an AP class.

Which school in MS? Gulfport High, or Meridian?

You need to take the most rigorous schedule that your school provides and do the very best in the classes. Yale evens the playing field this way since there is no other real way to balance out the wide disparity among high schools. There is a box on your counselor’s recommendation where they have to check how rigorous your course load was for your school. Make sure they will check “most rigorous” Good luck.
