My daughter applied to Yale SCEA on 8/24. Yale sent her the info to set-up her Eli account on 10/21. And as of 11/9, it seems to reflect a complete application file. However, Yale has not contacted her in terms of an Alumni interview other than to say that contact would come directly from an alum, if they are available to interview her. That likely means phone/email. All Yale emails and everything online keeps emphasizing that all applicants will not be able to be interviewed. It is simply based on availability. But, she has already been interviewed by a Brown alum, even though she only applied there RD. So I guess you never know. She would like to interview with Yale as well, but she may not be extended that opportunity. Years ago, when I applied, they also did not contact me for an alum interview⊠but every other school I applied to did. Maybe they just have too few alumni in our areaâŠ

Where are you, Wwward? They seem to have many in the NJ suburbs of NYC. :-)

We live in Tampa, FL. I know that there are a # of alum in this area, but based on the turn-out at the Yale College Info session that was held here recently, I also suspect that the ratio of applicants to available alum may make it a challenge to get them all interviewed in time. There were well over 200 in attendance for that Yale info session, for example, far more than were at the sessions for Duke and Brown. There is still some time before Dec 17th (Decision Day)⊠so hereâs hoping that she will get the opportunity to still interview.

@marioandluigi: D14 just got her Eli login yesterday and has the same situation as you - Red X by the School Report even though Common App indicates it was downloaded. Teacher Recs both have green checks.

Regarding the interview, some other local students have had their interviews already, even though they submitted their applications after D14. I would think that is related to the fact that she just got her Eli information yesterday, but is a bit frustrating. I guess it pays to procrastinate sometimes, as it seems like applications may have been processed Last In, First Out.

Looking at this thread, âLast In, First Outâ does seem to apply for sure, at least in many cases. Even though my daughter applied SCEA to Yale, her submission on Aug 24th was actually one of her last Common Application submissions⊠exactly because Yale only became available to submit fully on that day. She submitted it in fact within one hour of its availability to do so. But that sort of timing clearly offers no benefit to an applicant. She was just super-eager and thus insisted on applying to Yale asap. In our case, my daughterâs GC was contacted directly by Yale. They asked her to Fax in the School Report, as they could not acquire it via the Common App website, despite it saying DOWNLOADED there for some time. This was the case with a few schools. If you do not have the green check on your Eli account page, Yale is suggesting that missing items can be faxed to them directly as well⊠Good Luck

The Good News⊠only 34 days or 816 hours to go until âThe Decisionâ. Best of luck to all SCEA applicants. Yale is an amazing school, and I am highly confident that each and every applicant will get a complete and thorough evaluation before those decisions are reached. And I am also sure that Yale, like most elite programs, will be reluctant about having to defer or decline many qualified applicants⊠wishing they could accept more than they will be able to ultimately.

33 days 5 hoursâŠuntil the day

Waiting is so tiring :(

What are some of you guysâ second choices (besides h and p)?

I donât really like h/p much, so I guess second choices will be schools like brown or JHU

As a JHU grad myself, I would suggest Brown. My daughterâs list is: 1. Yale 2. Brown 3. Princeton 4. Columbia 5. Duke⊠then Stanford, Northwestern, UChicago. But there is a huge gap between Yale/Brown and the rest in her opinion. And this is due in large part to how these schoolâs prioritize the undergraduate experience. I would include Princeton in that group myself.

This has probably been covered somewhere on CC, but I couldnât find it via search. Is there a way to find out if a supplemental LOR (i.e., one not submitted through CA) has made its way to the applicantâs folder?

IxnayBob, Yale apparently will only list the required items received in the online applicant status update.

The other schools that wouldâve been my top choices (if not for Yale :P) are Dartmouth, Rice, and Tufts. Then come Harvard and Princeton.

Are there any other applicants from the Tampa Bay area of Florida, and if so, have alumni contacted you regarding an interview?

My Dâs top choices after Yale are Tufts/Brown (tied,) then U Penn and Northwestern.
She interviewed on campus over the summer, so not expecting an alumni interview.
Just accepted to her safety school (Tulane) but anxiously awaiting Dec. 17!

That was a quick decision via Tulane. I wasnât aware that they offered Rolling Admissions. Congrats!

My D submitted on 11/03, still not info on Eli account or alumni interview. Is anybody else still waiting for these info as well?

I havenât received a call either, and it says that my ACT scores have not been receivedâŠ

It seems Tulane has a reputation the past few years of âunofficialâ rolling admissions. My D had been checking her status daily until today it changed to admitted.
