I just realized that I usually work 4-8pm on Tuesdays… Oh no… :’( X_X
@Shoumei I work until 6 PM Pacific time, so 3 hours after decisions come out. I’ve already decided not to open it at work. Too stressful!
If I may ask, for my curiosity, what did you guys write about on your common app/extra essay that yale allowed for submission. I’m not comparing or anything, I just wanted to know for curiosity- I love hearing the different topics people write about!
Common App Essay: breaking out of my childhood cult/marriage
Extra Essay: Coaching Junior Olympic volleyball
What about you, @Xboxgamergirl ?
Common App: my experience as an exchange student in the US.
Additional: one of the traditions of my family and how it is connected with some of my interests.
Common App Essay: How I was refused to go into a mosque because I was part Hindu, and how I still get racial injustices for being part Hindu and Muslim.
Extra Essay: How my mom inspired me to become a third place international Muay Thai title holder. As a child she was a dancer, and then she let go of that for martial arts due to a rape encounter. And then I went on to say how I want to fight for women’s rights and how in India I hold a seminar with national delegates to address women issues and the importance of martial arts/confidence.
@mjstewart1224 , those seem like wonderful and very interesting topics to write about! Your essays must be very meaningful! You coached for Junior Olympics? That’s cool. I actually had my junior Olympics swim trials last year.I did pretty well, hoping to qualify this year.
They are both very meaningful to me!! Hopefully it came across in the essays!
Your topics made me want to read your essays! Good choices!
@aposnova, Awesome! Where are you from? How do you like America?? Are you currently here?
@mjstewart1224, HAHA- thanks! I’m hoping that my essays will compensate for my SAT score. If I get in, I will def. send it over to you! But you gotta let me read yours as well, haha- they seem like awesome topics ot write about!
@Xboxgamergirl If we’re both admitted, it’s a deal!
@Xboxgamergirl I’m from Russia. St. Petersburg, specifically. I’m not in the US now, but I spent the 2013-2014 academic year in a tiny place in northern Wisconsin. I can’t say I absolutely loved it, but it was a very good experience nonetheless
Your essays seem so interesting!
Honestly, whenever I read this thread and read what some of you have already accomplished, I feel so out of place here.
When do the decisions for Yale come out?
@kittykatty119 December 15th. Probably at 5 PM EST
@aposnova, don’t feel out of place!! You are perfectly fine with what you have! Plus, your essay topics seem very interesting! I wish you good luck! And yeah, decisions are out at 5 on dec. 15!!!
@aposnova , just being an exchange student shows how committed you are to your likings! I hope you visit again (this time come to Georgia- You will love it!!) But I am sure you will like New York or California even more!!! That’s amazing that You are from Russia!!
@Xboxgamergirl In regards to your common app essay topic, I just want to comment on that. First off, great topic! It’s definitely going to score you points with the admissions team. I’m Muslim from Turkey, and honestly the fact that you were rejected from a mosque for being part Hindu is absolutely awful. That’s not what Islam is about. Whoever kicked you out clearly knows nothing about the values of Islam. We’re supposed to be welcoming and accepting, not rejecting of others. Just wanted to put that out there. Best of luck to you!
I wrote my common app essay about being a founder and activist in a local community initiative.
My extra essay on aspiring to a career in medicine.
Hopefully my first essay didn’t seem too cliche or proud. I honestly just wanted to talk about something that meant a lot to me.
