Yale/Harvard w strong academics?

OP, if you do the leg work, a 29 in math is a flag for stem, as is the 640, for a tippy top. None of us want to be harsh, but it’s risky to assume scores will go up now. If you were my own dear kid, I’d say: if it really means something to you to apply, if you are prepared to not get an admit and continue with your head held high, then maybe go for one of those. But this has to be very “eyes wide open.”

It sounds like you really don’t know Why those uber competitive colleges and how you match or not. Nor that, while kids look at admissions chances in some abstract, TT adcoms look for the “match” that will carry you through the actual four years, both academically and socially. And it’s not just you- they will review you as an individual first, but then in the context of the larger pool of applicants.

The research may be good (we don’t know what it is.) Adding personal pursuits (mandolin, gaming, the gym) isn’t what’s going to add icing. Harvard and Yale lay out what they look for, beyond stats and some clubs- the qualities. Plus, most top schools have examples of kids they think are the right sort of empowered and engaged. You have to look for this info, this view. Any other involvements you omitted here where you took on a challenge, showed some sort of leadership and had even small impact? Something outside school?

You need to know more about what they look for, to make an informed choice.
