Yale and Columbia were my top two choices. I actually was all set to apply Yale EA,even gave teacher recs with EA checked off, but ultiamtely did away with those and applied ED to Columbia. I was rejected. The only thing that will redeem that in my mind is getting into Yale.

I love Yale. They were so close in my mind. Columbia has a slight edge and I felt it'd be easier to get in there, so I applied. The sad thing is: If I didn't get into Columbia ED, whats to say I have a chance in hell of getting into YAle RD? I Mean cmon. Why do I have to love the best and hardest schools?

I was contemplating between those two, too! I picked Yale because it was early action, not decision. If I don't get into Yale this week, Columbia will definitely become my first choice. We may be flipped!

It might be difficult because the applicant pool tends to overlap in extremely competitive schools. But you've got nothing to lose by applying, just have some safeties.

freakish, I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but I think that if you retook your SAT IIs and bumped them all into the 700s, your Yale chances would be better.

freakish dear, im so glad to see that youve come into the light, alligned yourself with physis and made all right with the world. MAYBE we'll end up at Yale together :)

llama- i had a 690 Us history, 700 lit, and 620 writing. I retook the writing, find out Friday ( dont think i did much better, but well see). so say I do get a 700 plus writing, i qwill have a 690 and 2 700s which is practically all 700s.

oh and llama----When you say better, do you mean good or just- like not absolutely horrible, but now just horrible.

Re: Yale...I know someone last year who had a 3.9uw/1580/2330 who was rejected.
Actually, now that I think about it, two in that general range. Good luck but don't let yourself thinking that anyone has a great chance of Yale...you might want to read the accept/reject threads on the old board.

Way to be proactive! And by "better" I mean it's still a total crapshoot, and what do I know about what Yale admissions people look for anyway? If I did, I wouldn't be in freakout mode right now.

Still, those extra points couldn't hurt, right?

Wow, me too - Yale and Columbia were so close in my mind. I really wanted to ED Columbia but I was scared of commitment. So I EA'ed Yale, and we'll see how it works out in like two days.

What a professor I know at Columbia told me: They take all of the applications and throw them down the stairwell. The papers to land the farthest down will merit the acceptance letters. Yes, it is a crapshoot.
