im beginning to wonder if they’ll even email calls for interviews after this week. I really don’t think they’ll be holding interviews the last week of April. after all, round 2 is a month shorter, I kinda regret not applying for round 1 now
@madhutgm I am hopeless at this point. I have nearly perfect stats and very meaningfully extracurricular activities. However, I haven’t been invited for an interview yet. I regret not applying during round 1.
According to their post-interview email decisions will come out BY May 1st! Good luck evbd
@lucas2695 I guess there’s no real way of predicting our chances. I do feel kind of bummed out that I didn’t even make it to an interview after putting in a lot of effort into the application. but I just want to remain positive for the future
hi! i’m new to this thread but just wanted to share! i only recently got my interview invite on the 4th of April, scheduled for tomorrow morning! so i’m pretty sure they’re still sorting through applications as we speak (also my email literally came in at midnight HAHA)
also i was pretty sure my application was considered incomplete as i had one missing teacher report (he was always so busy and i felt too bad for constantly asking him for 2 weeks, eventually :() and i submitted my school reports but my school never verified them either (though i did call my school office to check if they could help with it previously, but…eh). the admissions team never contacted me about either of those too, so i had honestly given up all hope on ync and thought i’d wasted my time painstakingly looking through my essays. idk what’s up with that and i might just ask them tomorrow haha.
otherwise i’d say it’s still early to get hopeless! hope you all receive good news soon
welcome to the thread @spnnnxh !! I’m happy to hear you’re going for the interview! I wish you all the best and wow that’s kind of what happened to me too, my school submitted everything super late. thank you for your reassurance, was wondering if you’d mind asking them till when they’re holding the interviews? thank you! I’m kinda nervous as well as I have a deadline to accept another college and it’s looming pretty near.
hi! just got out of the interview, and i managed to ask!
the guy was a 3rd year student so he said he’s not entirely sure if they’re still going through applications/sending interview invites, but he does know the last slots seem to be on 20 Apr, and that interview invites usually get send at least a week before that. so going by that, i’d say if you don’t receive news by the coming weekend or so, you could call the admissions office up and check again if they’re done! hope that helps!
just to add on to the interview experiences that have been posted so far, it /really/ is a pretty chill conversation haha. the questions i got were really based on my previous answers and all, but it started off asking about my previous school, my experiences and classes etc. then moved onto outside of school like what activities i’ve done, and then of course the final why Yale/why not overseas colleges etc. mine took like over 40 minutes so it went waaay longer than expected haha, but it’s probably cos i speak too much,
i guess they’re right that there’s not much need to prepare except with some questions to pose at the end, just relax and be yourself, and answer as honestly as possible!
oh! i also wanted to add, if i’m not wrong most of the interviewers should be 3rd/4th year students, because i was told that the admissions office feels they’ll have a better gauge of the community in YNC and what students would be a good fit, and also because they’ll be able to answer questions regarding student life better.
so during interviews, most of them wouldn’t have gone through your entire applications before since they’re not the ones doing that! they only have some basic pointers with some general background info about you, like where you studied previously and such, so it’s totally fine to repeat (and add on!) to whatever you’ve written about in your application. i don’t think you’ll need to worry too much about them asking you questions specific to your application, especially regarding your essays—they mostly just respond to what you say during the interview itself. it was something i worried about for a while so i thought this might come in handy for anyone going for the future interviews! all the best!
wait what??? I think I had an admission officer as my interviewer lol.
@DaRealYI oh! i guess i was wrong then, cos just based off what i’ve read it seemed most people got interviewed by students! but yeah that was what they told me cos i just asked out of curiosity what being part of the admissions team as a student really entails haha. i guess they try to arrange for student interviewers but since they still have classes and all, the admission officers will still do some of the interviews too~
Hey folks. I just called the admissions team to ask them whether only shortlisted candidates who were invited for an interview would be accepted. They said that this information is not true. They said shortlisted candidates are part of the pool of admitted students into Yale-NUS, but not all. I called them because I read the claim that an interview was a mandatory step towards admission here and in other blogs. However, the admissions team just denied it to me. Nevertheless, I don’t know to what extent their claims are truthful since they might be just trying to calm me down. I don’t know. What are your thoughts about it?
@lucas2695 hmm that does sound confusing, because i remember having the impression that all admitted students would go through interviews too! but perhaps there is a small group of candidates who get in without interviews, maybe because they just can’t schedule one or due to other circumstances? orrr since the interview is really just a chance to get to know us better, maybe their applications suffice to show their capabilities and personality etc or they might use other methods to contact them? idk hahah but i highly doubt they would provide you with false info just to reassure you! so i’m guessing it does happen, just that we don’t hear much of it…?
@spnnnxh I am as confused as you are. I also thought it was a requirement to be interviewed in order to be admitted. Let’s see what happens. If anyone knows about someone who wasn’t interviewed and was admitted anyway, please share here!
@spnnnxh thanks so much for helping us to ask! Am happy your interview went well
@lucas2695 earlier on in the thread a senior did comment on that. you could possibly be put into a waitlist. Those in round 1 are waitlisted for further review if they’re to be admitted through round 2. Those in round 2 waitlist will probably get their decisions a little later. I’m not sure when though. I’m pretty sure being in a wait list still entails an interview if they decide to interview you. I’m not too sure about it though. Hopefully the senior can come in again to clarify this ^^
@madhutgm no prob, glad i was able to help!!
but honestly i feel like it’s impossible to know if you did ok in the interviews cos you’re just kinda sharing about yourself and they’re just so friendly it’s hard to gauge their reactions HAHAH and how they interpret that into whether you’d be a good fit for the school is entirely up to them i guess…so just fingers crossed!!! ;___;
hope you’ll get some good news soon tho!
Hi everyone! I applied for R2 as well, and just had my interview on 2nd April. Based on what I’ve been reading, my interview experience sounds very different to everyone else’s. Firstly I got interviewed by the manager of the admissions team, and most of my questions were based on my app instead and were really unlike anything posted here. Does this mean I’m a borderline case? Is this a cause for concern? I’m super super anxious.
@Mayarin oh wow! that sounds cool haha. actually i’m afraid my earlier comment was quite wrong, i just got that impression based off a few posts i’d seen from this particular thread alone. but after going through previous years’ threads i don’t think it’s a cause for concern at all! seems like interview experiences really differ depending on who you get, some get more general get-to-know-you questions, some get more quirky ones and some get really personal ones (perhaps more like yours?)!
also came across a comment from a previous thread, being interviewed directly by someone from admissions means you don’t need to worry about your words being mistranslated or anything of that sort, and might even give the admissions team a stronger impression of who you are and what you value. hopefully that’ll ease your anxiety!!!
I went for the interview a few days back and many of the comments here stated they got a post-interview e-mail which I didn’t get :// Does that mean anything?
does the post-interview email really mean anything?
Not sure, just heard that it states when the results will be out and stuff. Was just a little worried bc I don’t think I did very well at the interview HAHAH
