I agree with the sentiment of Wake...

I will go out on a limb and say Yale. With Yale's generous financial aid policies, people coming from families making 200k will only be required to contribute 20k per year towards their education, or 80k for all four years. For the OP to not qualify for aid, I'm assuming he/she comes from a family making over 300k per year. With that kind of income, I think the person can easily afford Yale, assuming his parents are content paying the list price.

OP i'll reiterate once - negotiate with yale for the aid

its not about whether the 200k's gonna do some significant resume padding for you....its bout the unique life-changing experience at yale thats on a significantly different level as Wake

think about it

Which one did you attend – Wake or Yale? Are you happy with your decision?

My instinct was Yale initially, but everyone is right that it’s not worth 200k. 100k and I would say go Yale, unless not going would mean that money would go to grad school instead.

I loved Wake, and if you end up going you’ll love it too, but a Yale undergrad degree will open doors and grease wheels in a way that Wake’s will not.

HYPSM does not offer some sort of magic degree that sets you for life. Some posters on CC are actually trying to justify spending 200k over attending an excellent school like Wake, so sad.

Definitely go to Wake. If the 200k is a big deal to you, then you should pocket that money and save it for grad school. Also, the guaranteed summer grants would help you build up your resume and gain more experience/exposure than you would normally receive at Yale.

kvilledeac and Dramacratic win the “day late and a dollar short” prize. :D

bugsliberty, people with 2 posts aren’t going to respond when you resurrect their threads two years later. I have confidence that you’re capable of making your own decision.

It might also be a good idea to PM such posters in the future…other posters may not read the date of the thread, and it is pointless to jumpstart these old threads.

Follow your dream. I believe that over the course of a career, a Yale degree is worth well over $200,000 more than a Wake Forest degree, especially if you want to work or go to grad school anywhere outside of the South.

yabeyable2 –

1) You’re off by $190,000 on the career earnings front per the Krueger-Dale study, and
2) this is a 2 year old post.

I’m in the same boat right now. What would you say to someone who didn’t really like Wake that much, but got a full ride with summers, versus Yale on 17k a year?

I’m leaning toward Wake because I’m a jaded poet time probably going to graduate school anyway, but I wish they had more programs I liked (like a major in film studies instead of just a minor, a creative writing program, more diversity, more extracurriculars). Wake seems pretty boring to me, but the education seems ok. I don’t know what to do

It depends on your aspirations. You can get a good eduction at most schools if you are committed to doing so. Yale may be worth the money for poli sci if you want to be a politician since you may make connections with wealthy / polically connected people. Other than that, I would say save the money. If you do chose Wake, do something with the money (i.e. don’t spend it on crap). Invest it wisely and you can pay for grad school and a down payment on a house when you get done. Good luck.

Gracedeal, as you seem to prefer Yale, you’ve only got to work out with your parents the exact impact of the add’l $68k in expense to attend.

Is Yale worth $68k more to you than Wake? I cannot answer that for you. Just know that if you need to take out $68k in loans, you will be paying off that $68k for 10 years at more than the monthly cost of a car. For me, I would consider that “worth it”.

Yale changed the amount per year to about 12k… what then?
