Yale or Wharton?

I was accepted to both, got comparable aid at both, and now I am stuck. I’m looking to go into finance if that helps. Please let me know what you think and if any others out there who were in the similar situation last year; how did you decide? Thank you.

This is not even a debate- Go to Wharton if you want to get into finance. You'll get plenty of interviews from Yale but your training/exposure and number of opportunities will be better from Wharton.

For almost anything else Yale (more for snob appeal than any actual disparities in quality of liberal arts education), for finance, it's Wharton by a long shot.

ask legendofmax. He had the exact same situation, and he chose wharton.

Someone posted this a while ago and I thought it was hilarious...

Why Penn over Yale is always a good sale

The Yalies come to the CC Penn board
And all I can’t think to say is, Oh Lord!
It’s sad they have nothing better to do
Than come online and insult me and you.
But as incredibly smart Quakers we know
The true reason for their ridiculous show:
They’re afraid of losing their US News rank
And having Penn—a “state school”— to thank.

Go ahead Yalies and insult our school, Penn
Because soon to come is the sweet time when
You’ll clutch your degree when asking for a job
But in the boss’s corner office you’ll let out a sob
Because a Quaker has also applied for the position
And matter no more will selectivity of admission.
Because the Quaker will be smarter than you.
Because Quaker actually had things to do
(instead of insulting other schools like a piece of poo;
And the Quaker will get the job, just to clarify.)

Let’s broaden this to all the jealous schools
If you doubt the might of Penn you are all fools.
Benjamin Franklin built a school that’s da ****,
And we don’t really care what your opinion is about it.
And don’t bother to show up during Fling
Because we’ll be in the Quad busily toasting
The success of our most mighty institution
And laughing at your prestige-prostitution.

I want to end this inspirational poem on a high note
So I’ll take one more stanza to gloat
About the glory that is our most wonderful Penn.
Thanks for giving us a school better than Yale, Uncle Ben!

definetly yale

definitely yale

Wharton. Don't get sucked into the whole prestige bit; employers will prefer Wharton, even if your family and friends have only heard of Yale.

i agree with happypoo.

haha...that poem is hilarious

if you want finance it's wharton. You don't seem too sure about that, so I would suggest Yale. Wharton isn't a place for people who aren't sure.

Actually I think Wharton is great for people who aren't sure. At least you can still get a ton of liberal arts classes and a quality degree that is useful no matter what you end up deciding to do. I think most people come in to Wharton not knowing what they want to do. And some don't even know if they want to work in business, and some KNOW they don't want to work in business. That doesn't make the degree any less worth it.

Well, I think it depends on a lot of factors. Wharton and Yale are in two completely differnt type of cities and they are just really unique.

But if you want to learn business, like the others said, go to Wharton without a doubt.

You can't go wrong with either. If you're sure you want business and finance, then go Wharton. Otherwise, either is fine.

the big donald trump went to wharton, automatically the best school ;)

I would say Yale ... I had been fighting myself in October about whether to apply ED to Penn or EA to Yale. I chose Penn because I believed I had no shot at Yale. I would choose Yale because it is probably the best education and undergraduate experience in the world. And you get a liberal arts education while maintaining the prestige so jobs are not a problem. And then you can always go to Business School if you want to do finance. Not everyone in finance went to an undergraduate b-school and many companies prefer the liberal arts and then b-school over the undergrad b-school because you are exposed to more (the whole "book smart" v. "street smart" argument)

shhhh... stop spoiling my attempt to slacken the strain on Penn's housing system by sending one more to Yale ;)

I guess I was speaking for myself... I KNOW I want to do business.

Yale = Socialist
Wharton = Capitalist
...you want to do finance..choose Wharton :)

See Donald Trump's wife? You want someone that hot, right? Guess where he learned how to score babes? That's right. Not Yale. Come to Penn.

I cant help but hate you...having to choose between what were my top 2 schools.
